Tinnitus?

Posted by shadowstrike32 on April 2, 2006, 11:18 p.m.

I dont think so… for as long as i can remember, i have had this persistent ringing in my ears. I would call it tinnitus, but what causes the ringing is not listed under any of the possible causes.

I just dont get it… The ringing in my ears worsens when:

I am in the presence of light

I am thinking to hard

I am isolated

When i am scared

I just dont know… i am going to see a doctor about it soon. This ringing lately as gotten extremely unsettling though, as it is becoming associated with nightmares.

Yeah… I think tat's a bit past St. Tinnitus' Ring…. And yes, last time i checked, that is the proper name ofr it, or rather, the mythological name for it.

In the presence of light… Do you stay in the dark a lot?

Thinking too hard… Hm. That does put stress on you.

Same for me when it comes to Isolation, and being scared. If you happen to solve this, perhaps you might tell me what's going on.

No i do not stay in the dark… i am afraid of the dark. If i am in the dark, i am usually under my bed sheets or have a flashlight close at hand.

My mom had a tumor in her right ear that was causing that condition. To have it repaired she needed surgery to remove the tumor, but also at the cost of losing her sense of hearing in her right ear. This was about 6 years ago.

Anyways, I think most people have this condition. For instance, when in bed where it's quiet with no other noises, if I think about it, I can usually hear ringing.

As in it's causing them, or it's a product of them? I wouldn't know, seeing as I've never actually had a nightmare.

hmmm, i believe i have an odd issue like that whenever it's quiet, with noone around, and there is no light… it hurts… but that must be painful, the ringing…… i absolutly HATE IT!!! ARGH!.. ok, i'm calmed down… but each time i hear some sort of ringing, it just… brings really bad images to mind… of my most treasured thoughts… christ, i hate it… that's pretty much one of my big fears… i never keep an alarm clock, i hate those… and the ringing make me have really nasty nightmares too, but i don't experience it alot, simply because i stay away from any places where i could hear ringing in my ears and nothing else… anyways, how bad does it normally hurt? 1-10 scale?

It doesnt hurt… it is just extremely unsettling. And the association with nightmares? its just like every timei have i nightmare, the ringing is extremely loud. I remeber one particular nightmar (actually sort of a daymare :) ) when i could not hear anything outside of my head becasue of the ringing. I guess that was a good thing, because my brother told me that i was screaming. (…)

anyway… im going to the doctor today to get the casue of the riniging checked out. Apparently, if the ringing is persistent for over 2 weeks (its been 16 years…) then its a bad thing…

Ah. I'm semi-afraid of the dark, although i tend to stay in the dark more than the light. It helps me focus.

I understand fears like that, because i was once afraid of the dark. And i still am, a little bit. I have a lot of fears that are a LOT more irrational. Good luck finding the cause behind this.

without going too far into detail (i wnded up having to see 2 doctors and one psycologist/psychiatrist) it turned out to be a stress related thing. I am glad, because the first doctor said it was a tumor (and i called him a cooke)
