Death Count.. for the people who've existed for ages now will know what it is.. a game I created ages ago, it puts the player in a top-down world in control of a psychotic man's search for the 5 orbs of power.
Well.. I'm remaking it, and pretty much the only difference is that it has no more ripped graphics. Oh, and the code is a lot better than before.. computer science 1A taught me a few things about code reuse…anyways.. so it's a top-down uber violent shooter, with lots of enemies to kill, but the combat mechanic is (well I hope) different from other top downs. Basically, you got this huge arsenal of weapons, which are introduced to the player fairly quickly, so he can choose what he wants to use. There are a LOT of enemies.. and unless you're playing on easy you gotta use a lot of tactics to beat each level and still be alive. Sneaking up behind enemies and using the shotgun is a good tactic, and you have to make use of cover all the time. When I release I know I'm going to get a lot of complaints that the game is too hard.. but get over it, I'm putting in a quick saving system.demo:http://64digits.com/users/tijitdamijit/death_count_demo_1_.zipIf you beat it on expert you deserve a medal.
I can't be bothered with code-reuse, I just type it from memory all over again, I'm pretty sure it saves time.
The game is meh, you move too slowly and the AI could use some work. I would like some better indications as to when I pick up new weapons, ammunitionm, etc. The pace of it seems too slowly to warrant having to take cover and hide, as it doesn't get that same kind of sneaking feeling. Also, the difficulty levels don't seem fair at all, you've just made the enemies shoot faster/do more damage, and due to the nature of them, once you are sighted, you are pretty screwed.I beat Hard mode but that's as far as I got. I will have to admit that Kyou is right about the difficulty levels (its not that they are better fighters or smarter, they just have more firepower).
I like the whole stealth aspect of it, but if that's what your going for then there's alot of room for improvement. You could always make it more like Metal Gear Solid, where you could make enemies smarter, allow them to do more damage, and give the player less ammo; but their has to be less of them. But if your going for action over stealth then your on the right path.I like the AI, but it seemed a little tough, I thought I was cool though, and the AI probably shouldn't shoot right away, but keep up the good work!
