How I almost got scammed

Posted by ultim8p00 on June 6, 2007, 10:08 a.m.

Ok so at my current job right now I get paid $8 an hour. I mean, it's not bad, but like i do the work and others get promoted. So I was like screw this. I'll look for another job.

So guess what I find in the mail: a company called Vector offering me $15 an appointment to work for them. An appointment is like 45 minutes, so 5 appointments is roughly 3 hours. I figured "sweet, ill be making $15 times 5 appointments working only 3 hours!" It sounded too good to be true…and it was.

After reading the letter in the mail, I call the number on the mail to set up an appointment. Some girl with like the sexiest voice answers the phone. This girl, I don't know if she wanted to have sex with me or something but she pretty much convinced me to go just to see what she looked like.

So I set up the appointment for the same day and then I'm off.

When I got there, I noticed that the place was not even ready. But I figured that they are just opening a new place you know. So I go in, and at first, I noticed that everyone in there is at most 21…including the managers. I see sexy-voice girl and I almost vomit at the thought of…

…any way, she tells me to go into some room and sit down and fill an applications. Right there I noticed a few things:

1. There is trophy bling everywhere. So many trophies and swords and certificates showing how awesome the company is. It's almost like they wanted you to believe that the company is legit - and not think otherwise.

2. Like I said, manager has got at most 3 years over me, and looks like a frat boy in a fancy suit.

3. Sexy-voice girl occasionally slips up and her voice isn't so sexy. More like raspy shit.

So I'm like hmm….weird. But the hope for $15 an appointment kept me going.

The frat boy manager comes in and he basically tells us (me and the other applicants) that we will be selling knives. Yes. Fucking knives. What the fuck? Knives?

Then the worst came when he said that he was gonna give us knives for free and we will need to pay $145 as collateral in case the knives get damaged. When we quit, we get a refund. In my head I'm like bitch I came here cause i need I job, not to shell out money.

So he went on with his presentation and says how only 20% of the people applying get hired. After the sessions, I found out that everyone there got hired.

So I came back home and did some research on Vector and Cutco. Basically, they are frauds. They scam money off of desperate college students and teens trying to find jobs. How deplorable.

I have an orientation on Thursday….which I'm not paid for by the way. I'm gonna call those bastards up tomorrow and rip the shit out of them. Then I'll like not even go there. Take that Vector.

BIG UPDATE ON LUCON:

No, it's not online yet. But you purist would probably love to know that Lucon has returned to it's roots; no more mouse-aim. Reloading animations are back again and you can now hold two guns at a time.

Good for you at avoiding a scam, but please limit the bad language.

I've been working at Vector for 20 years. It's not a scam. :(

What disturbs me most is that you think FSX could have been selling knives from the age of 0.

We have a Cutco store in our town, too. I always wondered why my mom wouldn't let me in there…
