I have returned. Hello.

Posted by username on May 31, 2008, 8:42 a.m.

I've been lurking, but I haven't made a blog entry in a while.

So.. I shall talk about music, and whatever comes to mind.

I would make one of those blog entries with heaps of questions, but I doubt anybody would bother to reply.

Anyway, music I've been listening to lately (not in order) :

In Flames - Don't really have much to say about them. They're awesome though. Dragonforce sounds almost boring compared to them..

Finch - What It Is To Burn is definitely their best album. And they are not emo.

Brand New - A lot of their lyrics don't make sense, but I still like them.

At the Drive-In - I did a painting depicting one of their concerts, when Cedric Bixler-Zavala called the audience sheep. You can watch it, if you want. They say it at the end. Not really my favourite songs by them.

Be Your Own Pet - Pop-punk band fronted by a girl.

Calabrese - Horror-punk but more clean sounding with catchy choruses.

Chiodos - They're sort of like a generic emo band, but they seem different to me somehow.

The Misfits - I'm assuming you all know them, so I won't bother saying anything about them.

The Crimson Ghosts - A lot of their songs sound happy to me. Even songs with lyrics that are kind of morbid or about death, like 'Death From Above'. I searched them on youtube and they looked like repulsive overweight middle-aged men and there was a random slutty-looking girl dancing on the stage. But I still like their sound anyway..

A Day in Black and White - They're pretty much awesome. Search them on youtube if you want. They're known as being one of the 'real' emo bands, not like mainstream 'emo' stuff like MCR and Alesana and The Used. That reminds me of when emo was at its most popular, in 2006. Don't see as many around anymore.

The Dead Milkmen - Their sound reminds me of kids music, but they're still good. "We went to the Phillie Pizza Company, and ordered some hot tea, the waitress said "well no, we only have it iced" so we jumped up on the table, and shouted "anarchy" And someone played a Beach Boys song, on the jukebox, it was California Dreamin', so we started screamin', on such a winter's day.." :P 'Oh baby, look at you, don't you look like Siouxsie Siouxs, how long did it take to get that way, what a terrible waste of energy, you wear black clothes so you're poetic, sad truth is you're just pathitic, you'll dance to anything.."

Dimmu Borgir - I always thought the 'satanic' poses of black metal bands were really lame. But I still listen to the music.

This will probably be the most hilarious thing you'll see all day, Top Ten Most Ridiculous Black Metal Pics. If you're a metal fan, don't get offended by it, they're making fun of the pictures, not the music.

http://www.ruthlessreviews.com/reviews.cfm/id/1322/page/top____most_ridiculous_black_metal_pics_of_all_time.html

Rites of Spring - Apparently they were the first emo band. They sound like punk-rock but less.. for lack of a better word, bratty and pissed-off. Their lyrics are more 'deep' and emotional.

Fugazi - A band from the 80's. They're.. unique, I don't really know what to say about them. Influenced emo as a genre, apparently.

Husker Du - I like songs that sound like it's played live and you're standing a distance away? I can't really explain it. I also like their cover of Sheena is a Punk Rocker.

The Horrors - They are weird. But I like them, even their stuff that sounds like country music.

mewithoutYou - Another band with (allegorical, probably) lyrics that don't make sense. I find their songs comforting though, somehow. Even the depressed-sounding ones.

MxPx - I don't care if some people think they're posers, or that one of their songs was in a chick-flick starring Hillary Duff, or that they made a song about mountain dew.

Nirvana - I'm assuming you all know Nirvana, and know that they are awesome. I'm sick of using awesome or cool as an adjective, I need a new one..

Shooting Stars - Christian acoustic music. Yep, that probably sounded random listing them after Nirvana.. I love the songs Sunrise, I Am the Way, and Show Me Your Light.

Saosin - I like the song Voices.

The Slits (old) - An all-girl band that was part of the original UK punk scene in the 70's. They weren't talented, musically, but their songs are interesting to listen to.

Sonic Syndicate - I like the song Denied, my friend showed it to me.

Sunny Day Real Estate - Known for being an emo band. My four favourite songs by them are In Circles, Every Shining Time You Arrive, Rain Song, and Red Elephant. Sometimes slower, softer songs make me impatient and bored, but I like these ones.

Richard Hell & the Voidoids - Lesser known punk band formed in the 70's. Blank Generation is probably their most popular song.

The Saints - Australian classic punk band. I've only heard a few songs by them, I like Stranded.

The Velvet Underground - They have some really beautiful songs. I hardly ever describe music as being beautiful but I can't think of a better word.

To those who have read this far, there's more but I can't be bothered listing them. Feel free to comment.

Except in real life, when people I've just met ask me what music I listen to I usually just blush and don't really know what to say and say a few things and end up making myself look like an idiot. It probably seems weird when someone like myself says they listen to punk rock and stuff.. One time I got upset about something but I can't remember what it was, and I was thinking 'the internet is where I belong because I'm a loser in real life'..

Anyway.. I've almost finished drawing on the cover of my notebook. It has random fantasy creatures and stuff everywhere, which all connect in a weird non-sensical way. It has clouds and trees and an ocean with random sea-monsters and cities and cartoon-ish lightning in the distance. It's cool.

I think I should stop typing now.

Nirvana, huh? Everyone seems to like Nirvana. Not me, though. I have individuality. =P

But Sonic Syndicate? Good.

Your blogs are interesting, hay.

Actually, Dragonforce IS boring. EVERY SONG IS ABOUT DRAGONS. It's predictable

Use the word "beasty," or make one up of your own. Or you could say "slordig." :D

I don't understand people who don't like Nirvana.
