A simple model designer?

While looking up my past particle designer and other programs like it that were developed later on, Im wondering if there was a program made for 3D models that made it easier to make them?

I know there are free modeling programs that have many many features, and can be converted into formats that game maker can load into the game. However, to a beginner modeler this seemed difficult and time consuming to learn everything to be able to do that.

There was this skeleton thing that I remember someone talking about. But it seemed a bit confusing to use. There was also a program to make levels with, but it also seemed confusing to get it to work right.

I think the best solution would have all of these components:

1) an easy modeling program that can be designed with a decent number of polygons and saved forgame maker to read, or a program to use gamemaker's shapes that can be saved and loaded.

2) an easy 3D level designer that can also be easily saved and loaded

3) an example (or API) that you can use with the game to load all this stuff easily and use it in your game.

I think there has been plenty of games made in 2D with game maker, which is fine. But I also think that it would be cool to see some more 3D games to come out with game maker, and I think a good way to do it is to have an easy-to-use system to allow people to do it in less time, and especially on their own.

Anything exist like that? Any ideas about this?

I don't really think anything like that exists, otherwise a lot of people would be using it. Sure there are programs that come with presets and stuff, but it's usually for their own engine, I haven't heard of anything GM specific.

I'd say your best bet is to Download 3DS Max, and get some box-modeling tutorials to start out with, since that's usually the extent of GM's 3D power. (Although this game called 'Dark Verse' has proved me wrong with this on so many levels.)

These are sites I'd recommend you browse through.

If you can't get Max, the closest thing to it that's free is Blender, but the interface can be a fuckover for a lot over people. So I'd suggest Wings3D, at the very least.

Blender got a major revamp of its interface for 2.5 and up to make it more intuitive I thought….

Ehhh, it's not as bad as it was a few years ago. But still kinda shit. But I can't really say anything, since I use Zbrush a lot, which a lot of people know has a fking -insane- interface.

Once you've mastered the one-thousand-and-one shortcuts of Blender, it becomes easier to use than Wings3D. Especially for models for games.

I was designing a 'simple' modeler at one point, but I gave up because… I didn't really need it.

I've never tried 3DS max, but when i did try blender i hated it lol. Thanks for the info.

I was wondering because if it makes it much easier to make 3D games, more can be made, and using that tool :3
