I took a look at zsh, and I definitely will take another look later. it looks like it can do some pretty fancy stuff, but the configuration..!
I've never even opened emacs, to be honest. When I was comparing the two I didn't want to deal with using emacs as a daemon (though I know it's optional), so I just immediately switched to vim.
You might want to check out something like oh my zsh! if you don't want to be bothered with the absurd initial setup. I stole my .zshrc from somebody else, personally.
