Hello!
We are a two man team: I am focused on creating graphics and my friend UDMeat is focused on programming. Here is an update on our game for the Spring Competition. We are trying to make an experimental business simulation where you manage people and projects. We have a working title of “Chroma Corpâ€?.We are still clarifying a lot of the ideas and gameplay but here are a few elements that we want to capture. - Employees have personality, emotions, and friendships.
- Over time you find out more about the people who work on your team.
- Gameplay will be related to learning about your employees, managing your team, making sure you hit deadlines, and unblocking/fixing problems that crop up.
- There is no money in the game.
Here are some photos of the game in its current state as of Wednesday. Here is a shot of the sprites laid out like an office. That feeling of working in a cube farm.
Graphics Thoughts
At first I was disappointed in the selection of Limited Color Palette as the theme of the competition but as I have been creating sprites for our game I have actually really enjoyed the challenge of limiting my color palette. Every sprite group in the game uses around <7 colors and I have tried to maximize each color's use. For example the photocopier sprite uses around 7 colors and all of them were picked originally for other sprites. The beige from the walls, the greys from the cubicles and blue from windows. Another example is the water cooler sprite where I was able to utilize window blues again for the tank. Watch Us Work
If you are interested in watching our development we have been recording each day as a timelapse video and have a playlist on YouTube. Link to playlistWe heard about the competition from the /r/gamedev post. The competition timing worked out perfectly for us as we wanted to finally start working full time on gamedev and having a deadline really helps focus ideas.
This sounds complicated, I can't wait to play it.
Might I suggest making those bricks on the outside wall a bit darker so they contrast more with the grass.Welcome to the many diggles.I like your artwork. And the game sounds interesting, can't wait to play it!
Also, nice working environment. It's better to have two people working side by side (Or more if possible), to prevent people from goofing off too much. Thanks for all the super quick and positive feedback!
@Charlie: Thanks for the tip I will look into it. My reasoning for the color scheme was to get that beige and bland feel of the office setting. @Steven: Actually a friend of mine mentioned this last night also. I never played Theme Hospital but I have always been a fan of Management/Tycoon games. Roller Coaster Tycoon, Transport Tycoon, Sim City and the Sims all took up large chunks of my childhood.@Mega: Yes! I am very luckly to have a friend who shares my passion and we have great synergy.Ha I knew it reminded me of something, it looks just like theme hospital. Here's hoping for The Office: The Game
I agree with Mega, I like how you guys roll.I've been watching you.
On Youtube. Not through your backdoor window…@Acid: Your comment just made ArtisanalCheese and I crack up. Thanks for watching.
It's great to see new faces pouring in for the competition, and I'm looking forward to testing out your game when its ready! The concept is intriguing, and I'd love to see where it goes.
Wow, you are doing a great job. Now remember to deposit your sanity in the red container never to be seen again. Also, make sure Colseed isn't in it eating 'candies' again. We don't want another 'pointy ears' incident.
