Stuff

I'm at my wits end when it comes to naming a blog entry.

Anyway, I thought I'd list the stuff I'm doing, and what I'm most likely to be uploading in the near future.

First of all, Hydra. I'm fixing it up nicely. It doesn't crash on startup now, it uses Exception handling instead of archaic C style error control, is packaged as a library and is now optimized in the room-update area.

I'll probably be releasing this version next week sometime.

Next, if anybody remembers the original Hydra engine, which was called Scourge, which was designed to be a Minecraft clone made in C++, good for you. I was tinkering again with some of my old code, and managed to make a demo that allows you to move around in a small world, remove blocks and add blocks. All running at a nice 60fps with no optimization (I cap it at 60fps. Helps with movement calculations).

I've finally started using those C++ concepts that I spent so much time learning, so now my engine is much more stable.

Thirdly, games. I'm still working on that game called StarCross that I used as an example in Hydra 1.5, 'cept now it has shooting, sub-menus, a boss, cool music, and HUMUNGOUS OVERDONE EXPLOSIONS…. nah, just Megaman style explosions.

I'm also tinkering with Project Aurlan again, my old Roguelike project that had the weird/cool looking double-bladed sword. I managed to optimize the render cycle nicely, and finally got around to using a higher variety of geometry for the dungeon maps.

I've also decided to integrate the editor with the game, so… MineRogue anybody? =P

Finally, on the development list, I've been playing around with PHP for a week now. Handy little language. I made a functional forum in a night, and made a development-log page.

So, with all that out of my system, I'm gonna be uploading (hopefully) a demo of Project Aurlan soon, with at least some sword-swinging this time, Hydra 1.5.2, and definitely another chiptune that I have made.

To end this off, I'm accepting ideas again for Project Aurlan; I lost my old list.

Now, back to my code-ocean…

Project hydra sounds really awesome, and I can't seem to get it to work for the life of me. :(

'course you can't get it working; It wouldn't be a Beta/Alpha otherwise >;3

I promise to test the engine thoroughly on a clean PC with no development environment so

I can accurately work out the installation and setup steps. For Windows XP at least…

Also, see chiptunes above. kthxbai.
