I refuse to post a screenshot of my game, because it needs to be a surprise. I'll just say two things: The game's complete enough that I can just make levels and treasures now, and that I scared the hell out of myself and two people while playing it earlier on.
Otherwise, I noticed some interesting functionality I actually knew nothing about in Game Maker 8 (It's in 8.1 too).If you hold down CTRL and right-click on an instance in a room, you access a very useful menu, specifically the Instance Creation Code. I used it to great effect with the messages left in the game. Also, the Send to Back and Bring to Front options are handy, not to mention Lock. And there I was thinking I'd seen everything GM 8 had, and there goes my last reasons to upgrade to GM8.1. (The instance creation code was the only feature I really wanted from GM8.1, but…)
That feature has been around at least since GM 6 :P but I've never seen anything from YoYo indicating it exists. I had to stumble on it also.
Edit: Oh, but it you ever do upgrade to GM8.1 (should be free for you, right?) you no longer hold down control to get the context menu, instead that's normal, and you hold control to delete objects when right clicking. That change is a tricky one when you first switch…the Instance Creation Code is my bitch.
I've been all over it since I found it in GM7.Yeah, I've been using those features since 6.1. :P
I started using it in 2006, because my world was narrow at that time, and I had no internet and only a DOS compiler v_v
Sad days…oh hey, I didn't know about that, and it is in 7.1, so I don't need to sell my soul to gm8 :D
GM8.0 is good GM8.1 is bad. They have new features at the cost of incompatibilities, bugs, and if you have HTML5 beta, problems with that too.
