Fantasy, Adventure Time and Other Stuff

MORE SCREENSHOTS FROM RPG:

Hax.

EDIT: Have a video.

(Effectively blocks out a decent portion of the potential readership).

Good morning, 64digits. Or it was nearly morning when I wrote this. Surprisingly, I'm still thinking straight, even though it's fast approaching midnight.

It turns out that I found another competition to enter. A casual one on YoYo, that is ending on the 31st of January next year; so I joined. The theme is 'Fantastic Fantasy', so naturally I'm doing something I've never really explored before - The jRPG:

That's my tileset test room so far. The waterfall is animated, of course. I'm going to be toning the saturation of the grass and water down by quite a bit, to better suite the mood.

I also have the basic battle system worked out on paper. It's similar to Final Fantasy IV's system (ATB).

So, in other news, I'm designing a screensaver with GM, because somebody challenged me to ages ago. Here's progress so far:

Large 1360x768 image of the screensaver

It randomly displays phrases I picked up from our very own banner messages. I love those.

Naturally, it's hard to tell what it looks like or what's going on with a still image; I'm not uploading it though. Why bother?

So with that, it's time to bring up something interesting that happened today:

Adventure Time

I was watching the BBC news on the family satellite TV at about 8:25 PM, when I noticed that Cartoon Network was having Adventure Time on. Now, quite honestly I was bored, so I decided to give it a watch.

It was a decently comical episode with Finn and his dog Jake (I think those are the names…) learning magic.

I've dropped most of my instant criticism of all things Cartoon, considering what I'm now watching anyway, and the first thing that I must say is: I don't love Adventure Time, but neither do I hate it.

It's a typical cartoon, one that is worth a watch if I happen to see it on while flicking through the channels (Something that never really happens).

What Mega watches on the Internet

> MLP. Up to Season 1 Episode 21 now. I save them

to my drive so I can torture the non-bronies I

know. See below.

Those damned ponies - A true story

You see, I watch MLP now. Every day I get another two episodes (This is because they don't air the show on any of our 150+ satellite channels ;_;… YET).

But of course, being in a fairly small town, I'm surrounded by people who:

A) Are deathly afraid of anything that has shades

of pink in it.

B) Can't stand theme-tunes or songs that aren't

metal related.

C) Hate pastel colors and Flash style animation.

D) Eat horsemeat, I suspect. No other reason for

their strange fear of sentient cartoon ponies.

Naturally, this situation causes a decent amount of amusement in my daily life. For instance, I know somebody who is eternally trying the Konami Code in EVERYTHING they can get their hands on. So I rigged up a GM game that sits in the background and flashes the one thing that makes this person keel over in fright when they see it: The 64digits logo with Twilight Sparkle next to it. Also, the undeniable fact that we're The Home of the Kickass Exploding Pizza may have something to do with it.

Long story short, I tell him that XP SP3 has the Konami Code as an Easter Egg. He puts it in. He leaps back in fright and covers his ears (That'd be the fear of the theme song).

Oh well, it's back to my development again. I've got some RPG heroes to design before bedtime.

** 10 minutes later **

Here's the first Generic characters rolling off the press. I was testing a Generic Template. Hah. Their clothing is basically the same… but I don't really care at this point.

I approve the tiles

I approve the screensaver (random characters that draw lines to each other?)

I guess I should give AT and MLP a try at some point

Mythbusters is stupidly padded, the good stuff is about 1/10th of the whole show.

Kickass Exploding Pizza <3 <3 <3

Have the characters randomly switch hair/clothing colors :D

Yes. Requires at least a Core 2 Duo 1.8, because it's GM.

I only watch it to watch them blow stuff up, something I can't do since C4 is a very difficult substance to get ones hands on.

If I feel like it. Maybe once I've finished working on the Bestiary.

OOooh, nice tiles.

I like it. But I can agree about the saturation.

My little Pony has only one use for me.

To make little children shut the fuck up.

In this country, it induces horrible screams, followed by deathly silences.

Sure enough, it's already looking better than my RPG :P

Good work. I can't wait to see more of it.

(There really aren't enough GM RPGs …)
