Linux just got 20% cooler

Especially since I got most of my modern games to run on it in WINE.

Of course, all my emulated games work fine. Oddly enough, the programs/games with

the worst compatibility are the Game Maker games (Especially games made with GM8.1).

Interesting.

Oh, and running Microsoft Internet Explorer in Linux is as ironic and entertaining as it sounds. And Microsoft Office, Windows Media Player, etc.

Something I'm going to try for lulz later on is running explorer.exe in WINE. See what happens.

Anyway, the list of games that I got to run:

> Serious Sam 2

> Far Cry (The first game)

> Warcraft 3

> Quake 4 (Oddly enough, not Quake 3)

> Civilization 4

> Starcraft (The original. No surprise there)

> Starcraft II Demo

> Transformers: War for Cybertron (A bit slow)

> Simcity 4

> Battle for Middle Earth 2

> Command and Conquer 3

> Unreal Tournament

> Unreal Tournament 2004

> Unreal 1 and 2

> Crysis (Slow).

> Some others

Most GM games won't display correctly, but they work (Kinda).

Other programs I got to run:

> Winamp

> Windows Media Player 9 (Not 10)

> Office 2003

> Internet Explorer 8

> No$GBA

> VisualBoyAdvance

> FCEUX

> FamiTracker 0.3.6

> MadTracker 2

> ModPlug Tracker

> TFMMaker/VGMMaker

> VirtuaNSF

> Cave Story

> Inkscape (Win32 binary)

> Blender (Win32 version. Works perfectly)

This amuses me greatly, and proves that WINE is becoming more stable as time goes by. Oh yeah, Code::Blocks works fine too, and I'm able to tweak it to compile both for Linux and Windows (By editing the toolchain paths a bit). I did most of the work in my C++ game yesterday in Linux. Forgot I was in Linux for a while, until I realized that the 'taskbar' was in two places.

Progress on the C++ game

I'm getting pretty far in it. I decided to just 'finish' the level, and keep it short since I'm just doing this to prove a point (for now). I've added shooting to it too. And I've already sprited all the enemies, effects etc. Now all I need to do is code in the enemies, explosions and the boss battle and I'll have a (short) game.

Music

Last year, during the month of February, I got my hands on an old NES game (In ROM format) by Capcom entitled Street Fighter 2010. The game sucked. Badly.

But there was one tune from the game that stuck in my head, and refused to leave (You know the type of song).

Anyway, ever since I heard it I've been trying to cover it, and let me tell you: Whoever composed this one was on LSD at the time because their timing is weird beyond comprehension. I had to lock the track to many an odd timing during various segments (4/4, 3/3, 4/4 again, etc), and even then it took me ages to even get it nearly right.

Well, this morning I opened the project file again, and decided to just damned well FINISH IT. And I did. And I improved it with some VRC6.

So here, have some awesome:

Apparently I'm not online, even though I'm quite sure I am;I think that the Active User feed is screwing up.

my PC's 80GB hard drive is too small for dual-booting imo

Way too small, especially if you plan on actually doing anything with major applications/games. I have a 240GB drive, and that works if I economize.

Why not use GIMP for Linux, which has built-in support for Watcom tablets? :P

Doesn't that have a Linux port anyways?

I think so. But I only have the Win32 version. :P

There are scripts included for installing UT2004 on linux from a windows disk. I did it before, but it's kinda shit. Or maybe that was just Ubuntu being shit. Either way, it didn't like fullscreen very much at all.

Anyway, yeah, Wine is pretty awesome. I had tons of shit working on it. Like Steam IIRC. Certain things wouldn't work though, so I eventually got bored and went back to Windows.
