It's OVER...

Posted by Astryl on March 26, 2012, 3:02 a.m.

I no longer have the will to go on. I'm going to end it all…

My comp entry that is. Hah. :3

I've gotten to the point now where I need to make the battle system, but I also realised something: It's not going to be fun (The game won't be fun).

Walking around weird looking randomly generated dungeons isn't much fun, throwing in variations of four enemies won't be fun, and even picking up treasure won't be fun.

Am I giving up? No. I'm uploading it, and it still stands as a submission/example for those interested. It can likewise be judged along with whatever other entries made it, though it'll fail on account of gameplay and theme by a long way :P

Oh, I'm uploading the whole project solution as well, for people interested in what I did.

So here:

The Game

The Project

Anyway, I now understand a lot more about XNA than I did before. Some things are damned annoying (Like the way you change the screen mode and timing. Why can't they just have a damned SetResolution() and SetFrameRateLimit() function?)

And now I've had considerable practice for the next comp, which I'm going to be way more serious about (And I won't have to deal with transvestites).

So for now, I shall resume my other projects and prepare myself for the next competition.

Have some pics:

Me forgetting to change the Use text in my copy-pasted item code for clothes:

The finished inventory system of awesome:

Code::Blocks auto-complete being too cool for it's own boots :3

Anyway, I felt a bit lonely in this competition. Did anybody post progress blogs or did I just go and miss all of them like a boss?

Ah well, back to my multitude of projects, and time to do a rethink on "What makes an RPG", and write down some what-no-to-dos for the next comp.

Also, go play Yggdra Union (PSP, GBA) and Shining Soul 2 (GBA). Two very different but very nice RPG's (Though Yggdra is actually more of a tactical strategy, but it's really nice. And difficult, but that's a good thing).

I'm getting back to the Dark Arts of Real Mode, switching to 32-bit Protected mode on one's own and creating kernels.

Evil laughter rings out

You're not the only one left. I said I'm still submitting this, I'm just freezing development >:3

No, I'm in, but I'm just going to do everything in a day.

It's the end of the semester, getting a little heated, so I've been kind of busy with school. But still got a week.

We'll see if I can get anything done.

heh don't you hate that? you bust your ass on a project, trying to perfect it mechanically than realize that the game isn't fun at all lol. I think perfecting an engine is much easier than making an appealing and enjoyable game. especially with certain genres like RPG's.

Too bad you're freezing development. It looks like it was coming along so well.

I won't be submitting anything because I devoted my time to another competition. That was probably the most productive game making week I've ever had, and now I don't feel like being so productive anymore.
