Two weeks, 9 days. Crunch time.

Posted by Astryl on July 12, 2012, 9:50 a.m.

This is just a friendly reminder to everybody to START RUNNING AROUND AND BEGIN TO PANIC NEEDLESSLY.

Of course, you don't have to, but it's more fun that way.

If any of you remember the beginning of the competition, I originally decided not to enter. Then somebody Kilin convinced me to carry on anyway.

I then vowed not to go into crunch mode.

I failed that one miserably. I was so stressed out this past few weeks, even our cats are steering clear. And I was called out by my family yesterday for the same reason.

So I can't wait for the competition to be over. Because then I can get back to being stressed about other things.

Anyway, I've completely left the game's code alone now, and am working purely in the level designer and GIMP at the moment. Textures and levels. So far, LEVEL 1 is complete, LEVEL 2 is underway, and I have nearly 30 textures.

Of course, I now have some major competition. Not from anybody on this site, not from a person at all… I just happened to be at the mall yesterday, shopping for new clothes, when I saw… Dragon Age Origins going for practically nothing.

And then I just had to see Mass Effect 2 likewise going for a song.

So now I have two medium/long games that I've never played before, and a competition to finish. Curses.

Anyway, this will potentially be my last blog for the month, until the 1st of August. I'm going on an enforced hiatus to avoid aggravating my rivals any further. If I ever bump into any of you in the future IRL, I'll get you a Beer/Pepsi/Whatever. Unlikely as that may be.

So good luck to all rivals. It's not a competition without some real competition.

I'm cheering for you guys to finish in time.

I'm still wondering how many people are going to finish at all… Even 30 games is going to be more than we've had before…

Oh yes, had to by myself a new DVD-RAM drive today. Gave up on my old one when it failed to read dual-layer DVD's, and decided (According to my calculations) that it would finish installing Mass Effect 2 on the 2nd of August (It was transferring at less than a single Kilobyte per second.).

So I woke up, walked out of the house like a boss, walked into the PC shop, and picked up a new drive. SATA this time. Why the hell did my PC come with an -IDE- optical drive anyway?

Oh well. Farewell, 64Digits. I might lurk, but I'm logging out for the first time in months. You'll see me on the first of August. And remember… tomorrow is Friday the 13th!

Laughs evilly

EDIT: Logged back in again because I got this instead of the logout success message. In fact, I've been getting this message when I change my avatar too…

Something is being mangled somewhere along the line. I'd call it needless hashing, but can't be sure. I'm not hunting for the problem at this point in time…

I hope I'll be able to get Internet access on the 2nd/3rd/4th of August while on vacation. Otherwise y'all might be waiting a few days for voting to start and shizna

But don't worry, I won't be extending the deadline.

If you put your ME2 CD key into Origin, you can get a digital download copy instead of having to install from disc.

Oh goody that means I'm following your instructions and programming like a madman to get my entry done in time for judging!

…Still should have slept at a time earlier than 5 AM though…

I hope you know that I didn't do that because of my competitive nature–I have no competitive nature. I thought it'd be a waste for you to drop out of the competition when you so clearly enjoy them, especially since this one is on such a large scale.

Stop letting things I say get to your head. I'm never 100% serious. Everyone has faults, and I do too. I also have things everywhere that I need to improve on. Let's leave it at that.

All in all, I never thought I'd be telling you this of all people, but I wish you the best of luck. Good health, good fortune. The competition awaits, and I guarantee that no matter what, you're going to do well.

But don't let that go to your head, either.

Also, seeing you stressed about this relieved me. Not because I don't want to see you do well, but because I'm glad someone else is in the same boat. Like you, I just want to be done with this so I can move on to doing things I enjoy (not that I don't enjoy this, but at this point I'm utterly exhausted).
