Right, taking my cue from [furry], I would like to point out that South Africa isn't some horrible hole with no infrastructure, an infestation of mercenaries and a racism problem.
Nope.Ok, maybe some racism still persists, but where doesn't it?Be honest.Anyway, read this:http://gamasutra.com/view/feature/132487/the_south_african_game_development_.php?print=1And something you may not know: We have a freakin' EA dev studio. Anyway, thought I'd put that out there. Now let me get back to my work. What I'm doing to relaxThough I'm at work right now with nothing much to do, I've been working on a minor project at home that i was intending to blog about. It isn't a game, nor is it a normal application…Nope. I'm coding, for -fun-, an OS from scratch. Eeyup. Before you start rolling around in fits of uncontrollable laughter, I already have a kernel, with only a single segmented memory manager at the moment, but with full access to te entire potential 4gb address line of a 32 bit CPU.In addition to that, I have some of the parts of the C standard library made (notably, memset, memcpy, malloc, free, putch, and puts), which I had to code from scratch.I also created a fault message display module, that creates a wonderful Blue Screen Of Doomtm (Not to be confused with the more common Blue Screen Of Death).Anyway, pics when I get back to my PC.
*clicks link, looks at pictures*
Nice. Saw that one coming a mile away…
This just in: generalisations suck.
I'm not even living in a capital city, I'm living in a small town, and we have a decent infrastructure.
Taking your cue from me? I don't understand.
Correction: Toast. It's the avatars. Both look so… Disinterested…
I hate that I almost feel slightly qualified to have the slightest opinion on anything in South Africa, but to be fair, it's probably worth noting that the end of apartheid didn't necessarily solve all of South Africa's problems overnight. Just saiyan.
Back when I knew some South Africans I never did bother to ask whether the country was more like Detroit or more like Mogadishu outside the middle class neighborhoods. Hmm.Life is varied outside the main centers. In some cases you have apartheid throwback towns, and in others you find a cultural mix that get along really well.
Our main problem now is the ANC still trying to use the excuse of apartheid when something goes wrong, or they have to delay their promised services. It's been just around 20 years since then, and now anything that goes wrong is their fault. With the exception of civil revolt.^Too true.
(is it just me but whenever someone's name is on post or comment it seems to change to my name… cause apparently you got your cue from toast but it shows my name?)Heh heh.
It's a little thing called a 'usertag'. Seek it, and hope you find it before it finds -you-.
