I found out about this from the GMC… and I remember being interested in it a few years ago:
http://www.nand2tetris.org/It's a free course with software that shows you how to build a computer system from scratch using simple logic gates and a hardware simulator, right up to making a simple OS for it. Perfect for anybody who doesn't know how a CPU works and wants to!I was trying to think of a way we could turn this into a jam or something. Of course, I failed at that; it would be interesting for a Jam type situation.Anyway… wait, why was I so excited to post this in the first place? I've got NaNoWriMo, my new game, work, my OS, and this now? Crap. There goes all my free time ;_;
That looks really fun/hard.
When you say 'build a computer form scratch' do you mean a real pc? (May sound like a stupid question)No. A simulated one. Still lots of fun, by the looks of it.
Ah makes sense then why you would want to do it in a jam.
When you're doing a Computer Science degree, these kind of things are less exciting
But… but… SCIENCE!
It's more that I'm currently already doing stuff like this, and I'd rather focus on that stuff, cos I want to do well at uni.
