So, I was coerced by a few people last night to try whip up something for the One Game A Month thing. I failed partially, but came out ahead with a really interesting little concept game.
Observe:(Testing the HTML5 video tag…)Threw this together in GMS quickly, though I'm really wanting to move it over to C++ for various reasons (Nice data structures >:I).My idea here is crazy (Considering that I came up with it at four in the morning). It involves taking roguelike gameplay, injecting it into an action shmup ala Smash T.V, injecting a bit of Metal Gear and Fallout into the mix and coming out with either a huge success or a horrible mess :PPitch random ideas if you want, I'm open to suggestion.
does it have to be either a huge success or completely disastrous? can't it be just… okay? :P
how far would the roguelike elements go? And by Metal Gear you mean surveillance and stealth, which is pretty much the opposite of action. (one of the reason Metal Gear is such a weird game)Well, "okay" would be a nice middle ground I guess :P
As for the Metal Gear side of things… I've got a huge tangle of ideas, and basically the only thing I'm intending to take from Metal Gear is the possibility of using stealth to sneak up on enemies, perhaps sneak past them. Not going to make it a focal point.hmm sounds fair. you pretty much have to choose between a full stealth or full action, otherwise you end up with a lot of the weird stealth/action games hitting the AAA/big-indie market where stealth is pretty much optional and everything leads to action anyway, especially when they always give you big awesome weapons that are designed to slaughter the hell out of everything.
I would play this. It looks great!
Ahh, yes. I want to take all my projects over to C++ for exactly the same reason!
