Blessing or Scam? [Kilin]

Posted by Castypher on Oct. 18, 2007, 12:42 p.m.

I found a crazy web host for PHP and MySQL, for those of you qho know about my issue. It's amazing so far, but I really dont know whether or not to trust it. URL? I forget, but my subdomain ends with exofire.com.

X10Hosting, that's their name.

What makes it different?

<li>Completely free - No upgrades, meaning you have the best there is at no charge.</li>

<li>Ad-free or ad-enhances account options, with different amounts of disk spaced and bandwidth.</li>

<li>Free subdomains and domain addons with redirections.</li>

<li>PHP/MySQL hosting with 5 free databases.</li>

<li>NO PERSONAL INFORMATION REQUIRED</li>

Well, it's almost too good to be true. You can't seriously tell me that they're a no-profit organization just giving you the best they can. The thing that caught me: NO PERSONAL INFORMATION. They ask for your email at most. That's all. Nothing else.

What kind of world is this?! Since when are things free? Anyone know about this? This may be my key to finishing the BOPG site, but I don't know how far I should trust it.

Reccommendations?

Also, I found another host that allows you to host other people. You don't have to pay to host 5 or 10 other sites. Wierd…

Well, this is something I would like to figure out. Thanks for any help you may give.

Peace out,

Kilin

I rekon after a month or something your site will be cut off and your free trial will have ended and you'll have to pay to continue using that service.. just a thought >_>

@phazon yoshi: I found it on Google, that's the thing.

@Firefly: It's possible, but as Frenchcon said, there were no credit cards involved, and they didn't ask for an address or anything. It might be cut off after a while, but they had no other options. The hosting is very high in demand, so I was put in a queue.

It only lasted 10 minutes though.

I think I used that host before. I think it went down for 2 months after I joined so I switched.

Place to experiment, seems.Nothing wrong with shacking there until you find or need something better

If they allow for ads in an account, that's how they make the cash

@Kaz: Thanks. BTW, love the avatar. XD

@serprex: I like the term "shack." But I'll stick there for a while longer.

You mean this?

Castypher 17 years, 1 month ago

Yes, that's it. If you didn't hear, hogofwar, it sounds fishy, okay? Why would anyone want to give you something for free? It's against apparent world philosophy.

Check to see if they try to claim whatever you host as their own.
