A New Character Sketch

Kilin posts two blogs in a month? Unthinkable!

Hey, I think we've seen her before! In pixel form, that is.

The hands and fingers turned out well! Finally I have accomplished something that looks less blocky and more feminine.

Actually, I'm a little iffy on the shading. Sure, it looks nice, but I may end up going back to my two/three-toned shades instead of using the paintbrush for (nice-looking) multiple shades. Not that either is particularly hard, it's just that I'm debating which looks better right now, and I don't even have the other to show, because that'd take me another hour or so of Photoshop, and I'm a bit tired.

So yeah, the new thing I tried this time was not trying anything new.

For those who are wondering, this character is Saira Devereux from Prism Soul, the so-called "face" of the game, much like Reimu might be one of the faces of Touhou, even though there are three other playable characters. Aaaanyway, she's, as you may have guessed by the designs on her tabard, a priestess. In training, at least. And no, she's no goody-goody. All of the playable characters are exorcists (but not necessarily holy).

While I'm introducing her, let's quickly go over her abilities.

Shot Type 1

She has lasers that are useful for piercing enemies and shields. Who can say Marisa Kirisame?

Special: She consecrates the area at her position for ten seconds. Some bullets can't pass through this field.

Tips: With, essentially, two shields and a widerange bomb, she's one of the more defensive character types.

Shot Type 2

She has a peculiar pattern that starts out narrow and spreads at the top of the screen. Always. If you're in the middle, the bottom, even the top, it'll always spread. It's good for the "hit anywhere" deal, but if the boss moves too low, it can prove useless. Her highest damage point is where the spray starts.

Special: She creates a burst of holy energy at the top of the screen to damage all enemies it passes through.

Tips: With some proper positioning, and provided the boss is attracted to the top, it's a fairly useful shot type, and a double-edged sword. But her special makes up for her weakness, because not many others do reliable damage like hers.

Now with one portrait out of the way, that's one step closer I am to releasing a demo video! Finally this damn game gets some attention, because it's going to lose it as soon as AG finishes his API.

why, you mad?
Oh, I forgot, you're just an edit whore.

Also, if you've got a problem with me, just say it, instead of just trying to diss me, for no reason, when I haven't done shit to you. I notice sometimes you come out of nowhere saying unnecessary shit to me, when I honestly could give a damn what you think. If you have something to say, say it now, because I'm honestly tired of you.

inb4 shitstorm/ban

Also, have you got a scanner Kilin? Mighty helpful if you know how to use it, just beam it up scotty and do some digivolving with the colors and shit. That's what I do for my yet unnannounced project.

I sketch, then scan. Always. Then I take it into Photoshop, mess with the contrast, take it into Illustrator, ink it, then take it back into Photoshop, fix up the lineart, and color it.

Cyrus says I should just get a tablet.

Also JID, I think you're taking Cyrus way too seriously. He plays around with everyone, and he's not singling you out.

well, it gets fuckin annoying after a while.

As of today, I can say I personally know someone who's a fairly competent artist and shares my style. Only thing is, she doesn't do it digitally. =<

And you'll have to take that up with Cyrus himself, JID. He's pretty good about stuff like that provided you approach the subject well.

I don't know why, but I'm the most creative when I have a sheet of paper and a pencil. Once I open photoshop and take out my tablet, all creativity is lost from me. Usually.

It's cool. It was just a misunderstanding, that's all.

It's a NecroKodak moment.
