64Completition Progress Check 7

Posted by Castypher on June 28, 2013, 3:10 p.m.

As of today, you have two weeks left to have your games finished to a reasonable degree. The game should be playable and near completion, and when the deadline approaches, I'll give submission instructions. Your entry will be analyzed both by elected judges and other entrants, and you'll be given the option to take their feedback into account. After that, you'll be given an additional month to work.

Some of you (HEL) have noticed that I've also brought up the Nanowrimo event. This isn't a concern for me, because either people aren't participating in both, or those who are have set a low word count goal. However, I myself will still be participating in the completition and attempting to meet a 75,000 word count, but this won't affect the rest of you in any way.

In short, I'm masochistic and I get off to having lots of work to do.

So alongside the usual, I'd like to hear your opinions on judges, or in other words, people who would be willing to briefly go through a few of the games and point out bugs or issues. I'll be doing this myself, and entrants are allowed to judge, seeing as you're not really competing against each other.

I just want to make it clear, however, that I call dibs on Cesque.

Working on portable ladder physics.

Currently, you can climb ladders while carrying them.

Ladders also let you go through walls and ceilings, kind of like the portable hole in the Looney Tunes universe.

Also, something minor to celebrate the US Supreme Court overturning the ruling on same-sex marriages and shit.

(whether kissing people you save makes it to the game will depend on how the relevant animation works out…)

Alright.

That's all I can really show for the final boss. How generic.

Found a composer this week who is working incredibly fast.

Screenshot of his character killing a giant leech that spits out smaller but still giant leeches.

I've been working on an inventory and travel screen; just recently added a trash can so you can make room for good items and toss lame ones.

And this is one of 5 environments currently in the game, which still need to be tweaked and I should be adding two more. Screen.

I'm also willing to do some judging.

I'm working on something. I'm not going to say anything more, because every time I do, forces beyond my control conspire to destroy what I've done so far…

I am a master procrastinator.

A Masternater.

That reminds me of a brand of mattresses called Masterpedic. They're quite comfortable.

Those characters look fanfreakingtastic by the way.

Buggy placement of allies: aka how to creep yourself out when testing

(random placement of things works now, but it's still pretty basic)

Charlie, that looks absolutely epic.

Kilin, I'm going to discuss my game with you on IRC later. Or via PM.

I'm going to officially pull out of this now. I've been saying for a couple of weeks that my progress was being stunted by "real life" and I just haven't had - and won't in the foreseeable future - the time to make any real progress on my game.

The process of getting up and running with this competition did give me the impetus to come up with a cohesive game design and story and so I will be continuing to work on the game when I have the time. But for this, I just can't warrant it. :(

I would more than happy (and feel slightly obliged) to play through some entries and give some feedback. :)
