The 64Completition has now ended....

Posted by Castypher on Aug. 24, 2013, 12:59 p.m.

I apologize for the long wait after the imposed deadline. School and work have kept me very busy with little more than a few hours at a time to do anything. However, I've finally managed to round up everyone's required information (though it would've been nice if anyone had their cover art source files handy), and your work is done.

The Completition has finally come to a close, and no further submissions will be taken. All finalists listed here are consequently participants in the bundle, so I'll be sending this package off this weekend. As one final courtesy, I'm posting the package here for all of you to look over and decide if anything is missing. Due to the agreement we had regarding the bundle, this will be taken out within the following week.

The Finalists

Cesque with Fire Point

Cosine with Regions

DaggerHog with Magical Castle

hel with Maiko Fuse

Pirate-Rob with Blob: Invasion

Purianite with Kizuna

For those of you who succeeded, congratulations. For those who dropped out, we all understand that sometimes life gets in the way and it can't be helped. Even if you didn't finish, there was a lot of good content coming from here and I would love to see these games finished one day.

As usual, PM me for any questions (except regarding the bundle, which I will do my best to inform you of as it comes), and please be courteous of my tight schedule. It's been difficult getting this all together.

Now if anyone wants to pixel a 16x16 badge for the finalists, I'll certainly let you.

Other than that, all I have to say is:

ON TO THE NEXT PROJECT!

I was actually going to request that you post your progress and process here. I'm sure a lot of us would love to know how to get our stuff published. Good luck man.

Word came back from Desura: we can't restrict any buying access from the platform itself (for obvious reasons, Desura needs a cut for hosting/distribution), but there's no reason we can't give out keys as part of our bundle. Here's our conversation, in which I forget the basic fact that Desura needs money (whooooooooops!). Desura also lets you keep your game hidden until you're ready to release, meaning we could get a synchronous release of sorts. I'd imagine we'd have to let IndieBundle know if our games are on Desura/Steam/Whatever so they can hook up with the service and make the proper arrangements.

Submitting to Desura looks easy enough, it's the same process as ModDB/IndieDB if you've used either of those before. Very easy to use, although you'll spend a while making properly sized images for your game's page. If you want to use Desura, go ahead and just start now! No reason not to, really, since you control if/when people can see your game.

I'll find out more tomorrow if I can about the Humble Store, but for now I'm going to sleep. Desura should be easy enough, we just need to talk to the people who manage everything and ask (dumb) questions!

Trailer! Wooooo!

Pirate-rob 11 years, 2 months ago

Well I have one last thing to do, make the trailer… On the last day… (why did I wait so long T.T)

Also, do we submit games tomorrow or today?

Also, trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxiR3WxXv1c

So, the overhaul of Kizuna is going great. Sorry I haven't updated here at all.

-Two new enemies, the elfbot and bomber penguin, have been added.

-A new environment, the factory, has been added.

-The first boss fight has been overhauled, and the fences have been drawn properly so I can cull the backfaces.

-A new house model is in the mix with the old one, and I'll be randomizing the roof colors.

-Areas have been updated with the new enemies.

-Kizuna's legs are now the only part of her that gets swapped during the walk animation, instead of an entire model. I've also redone the animation itself.

-Kizuna moves 25% faster.

Got the trailer done for Magical Castle.

Forgive the potato quality as I forgot to adjust some settings prior to recording the footage. Also I have no idea how to put trailers together so yeah.

Also, I'd like to point out for Cesque, there's a board game called Flash Point: Fire rescue, just in case you didn't know and if it's significant.

Cesque 11 years, 2 months ago

I know about it, I think I even mentioned it once before, it's partly what actually inspired my game's name (and also why I'm using Fire Point).

P.S. Guys, our trailer quality sucks :p It's official.

It's fine. I was just discussing with Purianite yesterday that the bundle really isn't that big of a deal. It's just a small action in the direction of publicity, so don't think this is going to get you millions of downloads or anything. If anyone has any ideas for how to bundle and distribute this in the future, I'll hand the task over to you.

A few of us were talking about the capability to package 64Digits competition games and showcase them on the site somewhere. This might be a feature worth looking into if competitions continue to be a big part of our site as they have been for the past few years.

EDIT: I've just received an answer to a question Cesque asked a while ago:

Square dimensions are the best choice, with a 400x400 minimum. If you have source files like a PSD, include those too, so they can move things around in the image to fit the site's design.

If this is in your power, please send me what you have. If not, don't worry about it and just let me know instead.

Great, I managed to miss the minimum by 2500 square pixels (mine is 350x350).

And you've no idea how long it took me to make that bloody 350x350 cover, throwing in extra space would ruin proportions, etc. So screw it, I give up. Feel free to stretch it or append a thick black outline around it or something >:(
