Kilin's Obligatory Competition Blog!

The last time I remember doing this was RPG4D 2012, which was the best three months of my life. Ah yeah, the days of blogging without caring how much tangible content the blog had, or how many colorful pictures. I've been trying to relive that productivity somehow, but it's legitimately impossible to pack 700 hours of sleepless work into three months when I work a heavier job and manage extra schoolwork at once and yet somehow have to maintain my social life.

Sadly I can't make a sketchblog this time around, so instead let me just provide a place where I can solidify ideas and everyone can point back to it when the project gets feature-creeped to hell.

Name: Vespere (tentative)

Medium: Unity

Genre: Puzzle

Motif: Celtic Mythology

First discovered nearly a thousand years ago, and first visited in the year 2000, Hybrasil is an island off the coast of Ireland that, according to myth, only appears for one day every seven years. Its appearance in 2000 warranted exploration by a fishing crew, and as word got out, others tried to find the island only to give up until it resurfaced in 2007, when a small research team landed and sank with it the following evening. Months before its resurfacing in 2014, members who claimed to be part of the same team commissioned several young adults to pioneer research on otherworldly energies that manifested themselves far underground.

The volunteers were drugged on arrival, brought underground and reawoken. Armed only with a device to interact with this energy, the participants set out to perform puzzles set by the research team. With guidance from the team and the ability to talk to the other participants, each is required to solve their puzzle in a competitive environment, finishing before the other participants do.

Miracles aren't without their costs. These were once sacrificial grounds, and, when the evening mist shrouds the island, those who perform poorly will suffer.

And so, the concept of the game is to solve puzzles in a timely fashion against other members. With the ability to choose your character at the start, each with their own strength and weakness pertaining to the puzzles, you may become friend or foe with the other participants, and the story plays out in an interesting combination of player choice and error.

Strangely, the concept took form based on how the competitions of 64Digits tend to play out. And so, bear this concept in mind, my fellow competition participants. At dawn, we ride.

I'll post my first dev log tomorrow, along with my general idea. Your idea sounds interesting; can't wait to see what you pull off :P

I'm looking forward to the streams that Acid's trying to promote. I think it'll make this competition feel so lively.

Should I be worried for my blood?

I just wanted to point out that all the connotations behind that message are true.

Happy competing.
