Did you forget about this? I did too. And then I didn't.
Hello, fellow Completition participants. As promised, this is the first of many two-week progress checks to see where everyone is on their games so far. These progress checks are mostly designed as a way to remind people to keep working, as well as show others what everyone's doing. There's no penalty and the progress checks are optional, but posting in them is very easy, so why not do something? If any of the content you added was visual, post a screenshot. If it was audio, give us a sample of the sounds or music. If it was engine work or straight programming, tell us about some of the features you added. If it was purely conceptual, post some stuff about what you came up with and try to sell it to the rest of us.Looking forward to seeing the work play out, but I think we'll have more success starting at the end of this month, for various reasons.Once again, if you want to enter, please do so in the entry blog, and I'll add your name and game to the list.
I'll admit I haven't put a lot of time toward the game so far, but I do have a few nice things to show.
First off, I've been attempting to pixel out a volcano area.Second, I've been trying to work on a dynamic music system, as well as making a few tracks for the game. I haven't really come up with actual tracks yet because I haven't decided the style of music I want to go for. Maybe some 8-bit + Kilin's usual fusion.Third, I've been fleshing out a weather system that changes dynamically. You could see the framework for it in previous screenshots with the little slider with "Clear" under it. It ranges from 0 - 100 in intensity, with 0 being clear and 100 being a typhoon. Intensity shifts based on a weather grid, with a little semi-random flux to account for dissipating rain and such. So basically, if you got rain in some eastern sector, it would make its way west and either dissipate or become more intense. Finally, I have this construction system I've been attempting to lay out, so the player can craft and place items around to customize the world they live in. That bit has been rough and complicated so far, but I think it'll be rewarding in the end.Multimirror is as you last saw it, i've had a bit of burnout since posting it on the 6th (also wanted to give myself a break for once this month because my birthday is soon).
i added some sprites for new enemies last night though. i'll post a fresh, new screenshot when i have one lol.Well, I haven't done much, myself. I've been busy with other stuff (mostly preparing for a graduation party). I have played around a bit and made some complex shapes that I fit together, and I did fix a couple bugs. Other than that, I simply haven't had time. :(
Good work, though, everyone! Keep it up.Sorry, I'm gonna drop outta this one, cause I'd rather finish the update on my one game rather than start a brand new one (I have no finished projects with enough content for me to finish)
What?
While the point of the Completition is to finish a project, this year I've put some emphasis on using the time to make significant progress instead. Charlie Carlo is entering Credence Filter (a pretty large game) and I'm entering this sucker which I probably won't finish but hope to have playable by the end of it. Don't sweat it if you don't have a project you can dedicate solely to the Completition. Just enter your other game and start posting updates on that one instead.Again, you don't have to finish it. If you make a lot of progress and put yourself substantially closer to completion, then that's a win in my eyes.Honestly I've been pretty depressed lately and couldn't do much work on my game.
I was able to get the basic platforming engine, basic spells and two enemies working, though, so I guess that's still progress.Next up I'm gonna see about working in a dialogue system and adding in more enemies.Sure, I didn't know we could do already finish projects ^^ thanks~ \o/
Only progress I've got is what I posted in my latest blog entry.
That, and this completely unrelated collaboration project I'm doing with a friend from Germany:http://gfycat.com/JaggedCrazyHoundJust doing art and a bit of bug-squashing for that project. From the few hours I have dedicated towards this, I now have an understanding of the basics of 3D in GameMaker.
I have made some progress towards a random apartment floor generator. Nothing too crazy or impressive, but it seemed like it'd be something interesting to try out.Hopefully I'll have a little more substance for the next check in!
