[DSG] - I CANT BELIEVE IT.

by creativity with colors and aesthetics has died…

HEY?

hi.

So, yea, i'm good at graphics. but can I make a game?

NIGGER PLEASE.

Here I am, with 2 versions of the game I am working on. Crimson Star/Depths/Reign of Uduku/[other working title]

Well, more like I keep switching from one design to another.

Day, or night.

NIGHT!!

[PROS] - - - Pretty looking. Not too dark, cool, has a unique aesthetic.

[CONS] - - - Doesn't fit the feel, can be too dark tooking as some areas are meant to be hot, not just warm. [its in a desert.] And, always night? no. just…. no.

DAY!!

[PROS] - - - Much more fitting, more versatile, fits music better, makes more sense, feels more desert-ish

[CONS] - - - Kinda ugly, makes water took too green, feels fake-ish, color palette needs work [anyone's free to photoshop the daytime screens to try new colors, or the night if you think you're cool enough.]

Should it fade from day to night??

- might look awkward

- not happy with it randomly being one or the other

Should it change depending on actions, every save-point u sleep, it changes??

- seems alittle wierd.

- any better ideas of when to change?

ANY IDEAS ON WHAT TO DO INSTEAD OF EITHER COLOR DECISIONS? got any new ones??

tried a twilight kinda red, tried a green, tried a sea-foam green, tried pink, purple, and bright blue.

I do think having it somehow switch between the two would be nice. I think fading would be possible.

Although night is more awesome because its, well, night, daytime seems to look better because it's got more color variety (if that's what you're aiming for).

Fading is a reasonable option.

I actually prefer the Daytime colors. Yes, even the green.

If you're really that torn, then have both like KaBob said. I don't know what the story is, but try to incorporate it into your story somehow. IE only some areas can be accessed at night(like you said, the character could 'rest' until then), or different enemies spawn at night.

I think "Aladdin" goes pretty good with these screenshots.

You seem to use a lot of glowing projectiles, and as you can see on the screenies, these look far better on a darker, bluish background. But I suppose you could always change the projectile colour >_<

I think fading between the two would be the nicest. Like 10 min day, 1 min fade, and then 10 min night etc. Other music when it's night etc…

Like the day/night system of Twilight Princess or something…

You could even add enemies which only appear at night :D

I don't get it. Make some levels night, and some day. Badabing, badaboom.

Very nice-looking game, btw.

@Mordi: It's open-world.

If its a desert then make it look more like a desert. The water doens't fit and maybe some sand piled up against things…

To be honest though that water looks so good I would really miss it :/

I think it would be better to just have areas with the weather appear a certain way to bring out the enviroment the most. Like say you're in ruins - IE the current area, I would keep it at night, but if you come across something like the next area, make it turn to dawn or something like that, to bring out the area's vibrance.

The reason why you can't finish a game is that you keep going back and changing things so often that you can't make up your damn mind on what to do, preventing you from progressing. I would suggest making a notebook detailing all of your ideas, and stick to strictly those ideas, and make modifications when it conflicts with the gameplay somehow. You may be a graphical god, but even that can't help when you can't make up your mind on one thing.
