[DSG] - I CANT BELIEVE IT.

by creativity with colors and aesthetics has died…

HEY?

hi.

So, yea, i'm good at graphics. but can I make a game?

NIGGER PLEASE.

Here I am, with 2 versions of the game I am working on. Crimson Star/Depths/Reign of Uduku/[other working title]

Well, more like I keep switching from one design to another.

Day, or night.

NIGHT!!

[PROS] - - - Pretty looking. Not too dark, cool, has a unique aesthetic.

[CONS] - - - Doesn't fit the feel, can be too dark tooking as some areas are meant to be hot, not just warm. [its in a desert.] And, always night? no. just…. no.

DAY!!

[PROS] - - - Much more fitting, more versatile, fits music better, makes more sense, feels more desert-ish

[CONS] - - - Kinda ugly, makes water took too green, feels fake-ish, color palette needs work [anyone's free to photoshop the daytime screens to try new colors, or the night if you think you're cool enough.]

Should it fade from day to night??

- might look awkward

- not happy with it randomly being one or the other

Should it change depending on actions, every save-point u sleep, it changes??

- seems alittle wierd.

- any better ideas of when to change?

ANY IDEAS ON WHAT TO DO INSTEAD OF EITHER COLOR DECISIONS? got any new ones??

tried a twilight kinda red, tried a green, tried a sea-foam green, tried pink, purple, and bright blue.

I think you should call it Duke Nukem Crimson Star Forever

I prefer the blue night-like background. It has this feeling of mystery, and the cool feel is actually very pleasant. But if you could incorporate both, switching between them would look nice too.

Ah. I don't read. I just look at the pretti picshurs.

I guess a fade in effect would be nice, if done right.

By the way, let me know if you would like some music for it. Maybe I can help there.

Well, it looks beautiful either way. If one is better than the other, it's only by an inconsequential amount. Just make a decision and move on, you know?

I'll give it to you from an expert standpoint.

In these screenshots, the day is better by far. It flows much better overall. The night is somewhat unfitting.

However, I don't see why you couldn't do a day/night cycle of some kind. Awhile back, I developed a method of darkening everything but the background. That would be the best approach for the nighttime scenes. It's a pain in the ass but WORTH EVERY BIT.

Also, deserts are cold at night. The more you know ——-*

If there's anything you'd like me to elaborate on, PM me or hit me up on MSN.

And for Christ's sake, "Depths" is perfect already.

I second V's idea on different areas have different time zones. Quite a few games use this system.

And you can't frigging tell where you're shooting because your projectiles are the colour of the sky :)

I suck at effects. D:

Yours are insane.

Cesque, perhaps the projectiles are more visible in motion.

I prefer the look of night.
