SO, first of all, please like DEPTHS on facebook, I would very much appreciate it! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Depths/263863020401852
For my S4D entry, it's a goddamn secret until it releases. ^^ It's been a challenge, however, I can't settle on a number of aspects of the game, but I am trying. I hope it'll look great by the end. The soundtrack, however, seems to be coming together much better than expected. A lot of locrian scale melodies and stuff, all MIDI [because its quick and easy, and fun actually, as a limited palette of sounds really allows me to be creative, other artists will understand, I'm sure.]Uhm, here's a new screen, sorry its JPG it's hosted on the new FB page. So, not much else, hope everyone's doing well, and I am REALLY excited for S4D this year as Halloween is BY FAR my favorite holiday of all time.

In all seriousness though, I'm pretty sure DSG is already fully aware of his options, and the reason he's still using GM is because of his own choice. Deciding to learn a programming language is a real commitment, one that you probably shouldn't bother with if you're not completely serious about the industry (or even the hobby). All I'm saying is that pushing your beliefs onto people who are content with what they've got is a little annoying, especially since you're not the only one.Besides, DSG's clear strength doesn't seem to be in his programming. It's in his art and feel for ambiance. Recommending C++ isn't going to help him with that.I'm not denying that C++ is lightyears ahead of GM. Don't get the wrong idea. I'm just saying that constantly saying the same thing is a bit incessant. Everyone says this already, so you don't need to.I was going to say something on-topic but then I couldn't think of anything.Although I will say that the only redeeming quality gml had on me personally was that mucking around with it back in the day taught me the basics of programming so when I had to take my Elementary Programming class I was able to half-ass it MAJORLY and still come out with an A, hahah.
Oh, for sure I enjoy that whenever he argues, he can always back it up rather than just making groundless claims. I'm not really attacking Luda here. It's more of a… "You do it your way and I'll do it my way" thing. Kind of like how people where I live are always imposing their religious beliefs on each other. It's just annoying and if people don't want to make the transition, why force them?
And yeah, GML (though most people say it teaches bad habits) has helped me pick up programming easily. I didn't have to adjust much, so I can't comprehend why people think it teaches bad habits when it's just common sense.Apologies, I suppose it is a nervous tick of sorts I was honestly trying not to do that here but it happened. this community is probably a poor fit for me these days. Sorry I derailed topic, dsg.
Edit: My point if you guys missed it wasn't that DSG should learn C++ - it was that it'd be wonderful if his work was brought to life with the help of a team.A comment about the screenshot, DSG. I'm not sure how I feel about the way the sand clings to the walls of the floor. The spikiness looks a little unnatural unless you're trying to show that it's caked on.
Anyone even remotely close to making a game has already heard of other- more efficient - ways to develop games.
I'm sure one day DSG looked up a C++ book and said - "Ehh, I'll learn it later"DSG is making a game for S4D?
You guys are all screwed.
