Still waiting to re-validate my GM:S license.
I was re-directed to the help desk. ugh. I've tried everything already. Guess I'll just work on sprites. Also, what is the best lighting engine compatible with GM:S? (something for GM8 should be fine, even a .gmk should work) I need one that's dynamic that can allow for many points of light that can change color, position, radius, and intensity without slowing down the frame rate. Anyone have a favorite or know of any good suggestions?Man, YoYo Games is a pain in the ass. However, GM:S is a much more professional product than GM8.1
That depends on whether you want godrays or just general lighting. I can see both working for Depths actually, but godrays tend to be a little slower.
For godrays, look up volumetric lighting. For a pretty advanced lighting system, look up L3S.Here's a link to L3S right here on 64D: http://www.64digits.com/games/index.php?cmd=view_game&id=1928 Adventus really knew how to work the GM magic.
I've worked with tons of advanced lighting engines and the one that Kilin and Zac have suggested might actually be the best one I've seen so far.(L3S)
I might actually scrap the one I was trying to make for my next game, and use this. seems pretty flexible as well. I dunno if it's like this for anyone else though, but I was only getting around 20 fps, but that's most likely because I'm running GM through Wine on Ubuntu.Without wishing to come across as churlish - make your own. They're not hard and it'll, ultimately, allow you to make one that's of optimal efficiency for your desired feature set.
@Juju: Yea… I've tried, I'm just not getting the results I want, I'm struggling with making anything good enough.
Ah, have a look through L3S (if you can stomach it) or start with one of the less confusing examples, of which there are dozens on the GMC somewhere.
Proper dynamic shadow casting is the really slow bit but you can "bake" static shadow-casting sources with some work. You'll probably have to develop an external tool to simplify the process though.I always used L3S for projects. It's a great system.
Did you stop working on this game?
I don't want to be the pessimist here, but… Although I don't have any evidence for it, I am pretty sure he did, sadly.
