Autodesk Maya sucks so bad. I swear. Its buggy. Its UI interface is crap. Its keyboard shortcuts suck. It has pretty much ZERO precision. You get pretty much zero numerical manipulation. You click on something, and it selects a different face or vertex a million miles away, even WITH selecting hidden faces removed. It crashes randomly. Its cut face tool is shit. To do ANYTHING you have to go through a billion menus. To change between face/vertex/object/edge mode is a bitch because 50% of the time it brings up a useless menu instead and deselects everything.
Pretty much Autodesk Maya is SHIT. How in hell it became an industry standard is beyond me. As far as I can tell, everyone uses it because everyone else uses it and they want to be compatible. And to top it off, I have an asshole sitting next to me telling me how glorious Maya is and that I'm stupid for wanting to use a program that works, even though Maya crashed 4 times in an hour on him.
Autodesk also makes Maya? I thought they only made 3ds max…
which, based on what you say about Maya, is orders of magnitude better. And it's only $5000. =D
At least it's not like Caligari hell - oops I mean Truespace. …which just so happens to be the polar opposite as far as the interface goes. What's 'self-intuitive' about a green dot? Or a blue oval?
Josea Maya was made by (and once called:) Alias. Autodesk bought Alias so now 3DS Max's old archenemy is owned by themselves.
Well, Truespace is free now, so yeah.
Exactly.
@Kenon: everything is free on the Internet.
Autodesk PERIOD sucks, though I've found Inventor was pretty fun.
