AM2R Slow progress

Posted by DoctorM64 on May 6, 2008, 2:41 p.m.

This month I managed to make some free time to dedicate to the project. It´s progressing slowly but steadily.

I´m still at the second ruins. I decided to remake them from scratch.

Why?

Because the place was boring.

Up to this point I was following the original map design too strictly, and forgot that the original layout was done inside the limits of hardware limitations.

So, I redesigned the second ruins from scratch. I´ll be adding some scripted events and simple puzzles to add some variety to the usual gameplay. Because the main areas are ancient ruins, I could add all kind of traps and devices, I was thinking something between Tomb Raider and Rick Dangerous (does anyone remember that game?).

Ideas for traps are welcome.

Some more enemies have been drawn also. We´ll begin with the Alpha Metroid ones next week or so, I´m in a mood for AI coding.

Oh, and if you still havent seen this…

Metroid:SR388

This game is gonna be awesome.

PY sure has a way with words.

If you need any help with those enemies or something, I'm a mediocre spriter that likes the Metroid Advance style, I also have rips from the game. Just saying.

A single word encapsulates my entire feeling about this project.

T'is cool. Cool is good.

I would've gone for something with a little more meat to it, like "Very cool", but I guess we're not all masters of the language like me.

Stop devaluing this section. While it is for commentary, such a short and vague message is a waste of your time and everyone else reading it's. So please, stop writing such tosh you insolent toad.

Or to paraphrase the above: "SPAMMUCH?"

Ah, watching your newest video: Ridley needs to flash red or white or something when damaged. The way it is now there isn't really a way to gauge damage. A change in tactics or sprite half-way maybe?

Eh, I've said plenty elsewhere.

Ridley already flashes when damaged. It uses the same method as the other enemies, it´s just a couple of frames long, but you can clearly see it when he´s being attacked with bombs.

Anyway, Ridley isn´t going to be in the final game (he wasn´t in Metroid 2). That was a boss I made in a rush to end the demo more dramatically than a "demo end" screen.
