Arcade Style

Well, after figuring out how to create bullet patterns (thank you Kaz), I've had some quality time to work on an engine for a project that hopefully I can get done over the summer. If I stay dedicated and don't become lazy I think I could churn this one out and it would be my first release online. Note that I didn't say first game. I've created many games yet I haven't felt good about any of them. Most of them were just experiments that somehow got shaped into mini-games.

So this project I'm working on is planned to have arcade style graphics. Now, I'm not the most decent sprite maker out there, so if anyone has some links to a few good tutorials about creating arcade style graphics, the help would be appreciated.

I recently downloaded the trial version of a game (not made in Game Maker) called Fren-ze and it was quite fun. Fren-ze is a manic shmup. The first level may seem easy at first, but once you pass the mini-boss, it gets tougher. To the right is a screenshot of the first boss. Now I personally haven't made it past the first boss in the trial version, so I'm not exactly sure if you can go any farther than level 1. The effects in this game are superbly done. If you want to buy the full version of Fren-ze, you can buy it here for only $5.

That pretty much wraps things up here. So if you have any links to good arcade-style graphics tutorials, drop me a comment.

Looks like you'll have fun with procedurally drawn GFX

So how does the Gplay work?

Um…well if you are talking about Fren-ze, that is not my game. That's just a game I stumbled upon. In Fren-ze you can reflect enemy shots with a shield and other than that you shoot the enemies.

I thought that that screenshot was of your game and was like, wow, you've made alot of progress in a few days…

lol.

where's your previous blog……………………. >_>

Yeah if that was my game, then I'd be impressed with myself. Somehow, my previous blog was deleted. I don't know where it went.

Isee,so what of the arcade game?

Mine or that one? That one is really fun to play. I'm working on the engine for mine and am looking for a tutorial on making arcade-style graphics. If you have a link to one that'd be nice.

Well,if you mean vector graphics, look into using draw functions, and praps even a lot of hollow polygons with rotated offsets

Doomed 17 years, 6 months ago

That's a possibility, but I don't like Game Maker's draw functions.

Why not?(And you can always make your own)

Because I don't want my game to look like Fren-ze.
