Kamelot - A Feast For The Vain
And if you don't know, nor like Kamelot, you should plan for a short life.Ok, on to my usual blog structure.So I stayed up nearly all morning working on this model. This is about 7 hours into modeling it, and I only used Max. WHY YOU SAY? WHY DIDN'T I JUST USE GOOGLE SKETCHUP LIKE I USUALLY WOULD?For one, when importing a .3ds file or .obj file into Max, the extruded faces are just one whole face. Which means it's just one giant n-sided poly (more than 4 sides)And not only that. Sometimes stuff gets triangulated. I HATE TRIANGLES IN MY MOFUCKIN' MESHES!So I decided to challenge myself this time around. Modeling completely in Max means I have control over everything, poly by poly, edge by edge etc.And so I could also keep stuff in quads as best I could.Usually I don't care, but I had plans on sculpting finer details on the weapon in Zbrush which requires nice quads otherwise it won't divide right.blahblahblahblah you didn't read this. Here is what I am working on for my character.

The center of the gun model looks too big, but still, nice job, better than anything I could do.
True, the center is too big…I'll have to find a way to fix that or hide it lol.
And if you can't tell, I had a hard fking time modeling the trigger area. I'm just a noob at this stuff anyway..practice makes almost perfect eh.Trim the middle section, extend the height of the handle and work on the trigger with the extra room you free up with making the middle section smaller. I don't see a hand fitting on the handle or a finger fitting in the trigger. I love the front part of the gun around the barrel. Looks great.
Thanks for the tips Glen. I might just leave it alone for now though. This model is just being made to hang off my character, so the little screw ups will never be seen lol.
I'll try and do what I can with these probs though. At least I'll learn from it heh.Kamelot is great, but for some reason I didn't like their latest album.
