IP checking sucks!

Posted by FireflyX on June 24, 2007, 10:37 a.m.

Ok i've just being told by FB that the user Turbo_Toons has the same ip as me!! But that's impossible since he's using a computer elsewhere! Therefore there must be something wrong with this sites ip checking system. This is not the first time it's happened either. I was told that the users SMgames and Victor had my ip and i was even blamed for duping when they weren't even me!!

Seriously that system needs checking because is it's saying that people who are all using computers no where near each other have the same ip.

Ok now that my moans over. I have completely finished registration, login and the member database for staticfire so hopefully it will be running shortly. Only problem is the FTP is down so i'm hoping that will be back up tonight. I host with streamline because they guarantee 100% uptime and now…. it's down!

It's probably your internet provider's fault. Most of the time, IPs are recycled among its users. (The same happened for my when I has dial up AOL.)

I don't know if i should really be blaming 64digits for it but ip checking seems to be an unreliable system.

there i edited the title to make it not look like this sites fault.

URGH? Bad wording.

I think he means that the guy with ip (we'll call it 111) 111 logs in then his IP gets recycled to 232, but you get a new IP that is 111 aswell and when you login it thinks you're the same guy.

The lesson is: Get a static IP.

I might do. I don't want to be blamed for duping again!

no, it means they have a crappy ISP. Don't worry, I know it's not you.
