Ok i've just being told by FB that the user Turbo_Toons has the same ip as me!! But that's impossible since he's using a computer elsewhere! Therefore there must be something wrong with this sites ip checking system. This is not the first time it's happened either. I was told that the users SMgames and Victor had my ip and i was even blamed for duping when they weren't even me!!
Seriously that system needs checking because is it's saying that people who are all using computers no where near each other have the same ip.Ok now that my moans over. I have completely finished registration, login and the member database for staticfire so hopefully it will be running shortly. Only problem is the FTP is down so i'm hoping that will be back up tonight. I host with streamline because they guarantee 100% uptime and now…. it's down!
There's not much else we can check aside from IP.
I suppose there isn't. Well you'll just have to hope you ban the right people.
That's why for V3, I've planned a system. Only one account per IP will be permitted, and if your IP already exists in the database, a message will tell you that. But it will also tell you how to contact a staff member to receive an account that will be considered legitimate, even with a similiar IP.
Otherwise, it's not our fault some users have dynamic IP addresses.Seems a good enough idea. Theres always been the siblings problem with ips too hopefully the new system should sort that.
So what happens with the dynamicIPs?
@Melee: unless you're going to implement an super awesome algorithm for that, it won't work very well. It'll probably give more trouble than anything else.
