Sports

So yea, I've decided to make a blog non-gamemaker related. I'm not aware of how many of you here actually do sports but, whatever… Today I had a cross country meet and I was running a 5k race. (For those of you who don't know, 5k=3.1miles) To my surprise I finished 8th place out of 201 runners. I'm not the best runner, (running for my High Schools Junior Varsity team) but I finished the race in 22 minutes and 57 seconds. That's currently my best time for a 3.1mile race. It averages to about 7 and a half minutes for each mile. For me that's a great time because this is the first time I've ever joined a team that does long distance running. I'm used to football and sprinting on the track team. I'm used to doing 1-2 laps around a track or a dozen 50 yard sprints down a field and my coaches were pleased. But with cross country…. HAH! My first practice went something like this….

I'm joining cross country 4 weeks later than everyone else and I show up to practice. I ask the captain what we were going to do and he says we're going to run a mile. I'm thinking, okay, this is long distance running, I guess a mile isn't so bad. And so we run it. I'm exhausted and breathing hard when we finish. After I take a break and start breathing normal again I ask again what we were going to do and if that was all…….. uhm, no. "That was our warm up, after you finish stretching we're going for a light 5 mile jog and when we're done we'll be doing a 1mile cool down"…… I was stunned. My first impression was, "Holy **** what have I gotten myself into? I couldn't walk for two days after that practice, lol…

Now I look forward to my 5 mile runs because if you don't do them then you feel like crap when it comes to race day. So far I'm looking at a 1 minute decrease in my time each race. I've been running for 5 weeks now. It gets addicting. But you know what? Despite all the hard work and dedication involved in joining a sports team, the benefits are amazing. I can run 3.1 miles without stopping. Can you run for 20 minutes without stopping at all and maintain the same speed throughout the distance? I never thought I could. And I still feel like I'm going to puke my brains out every time I finish a race. Sports…. The things we do to get in shape. heh… Do any of you do a sport? Are you good at something in particular?

I ran a 5k cross country race today too.

Couldn't walk for two days because of a 5 mile jog. You're hilarious.

yea man, the first practice was like a wake up call. I never ran so much. I'm glad I'm doing it now though. I feel so much better and not so lazy. What was your time btw?

I hunt polar bears unarmed for recreation. I also own 1 pair of shorts, a tshirt, 3 pairs of underwear and live in an igloo. I survive on the (raw) meat of the bears I kill.

You guys are hilarious.

It ain't 5k, it's 5Km. Cycling is way better than running.

Wow nice time, I did track and field throughout middle school, because of that, I average about a 7min every year in gym when we have physical fitness testing at school.

Currently I just play soccer and sharpshoot on the rifle team.

@TangoSquadron- Your school has a sharpshoot program? I've never heard of a school with that kind of program in it. Sounds like fun.

@Sinistrade- talk to any runner about a 5 kilometer race and they will call it a 5k race. Don't try to correct me. And cycling has its benefits, but cycling being better than running is completely your opinion. I cross train sometimes and cycle on the weekends when I don't feel like running.

Its a rifle team, you know target shooting and stuff. We only use small caliber rifles like high powered pellet guns of .22's. I guess the whole reason my high school has a rifle team is because my area is hugely interested (not me) in hunting. So much that we get days off from school just so people can shoot at animals.
