[G] Patience

So, my father owns a business and wants a website. Typically he looks at me for a solution and asks me to make it happen seeing how I do alot of digital art and have created several sites for myself in the past. He also has absolutely no experience with websites and doesn't want to spend alot of money on a professional web designer. Plus it gives me something to do in my free time and he's paying me a little bit. I've never met anyone so picky and old fashion in my life when it comes to design. I knew right from the start that he was going to give me a hard time with it.

When it comes to art, I'm creative. I have an imagination and I like to make things that stand out. My father on the other hand finds everything he sees to be bizarre and strange. If it's not black and white with a grain effect then it's not for him. (<- Exaggerating). I've made 9 logo designs for him and he rejected the first 8. It's been a week and we've only made the logo so far. I'm not used to taking so much time.

His logo ended up being a simple earth globe with a phrase circling around it and his business name running through the middle. A week. And that's the progress we've made. I don't see how people find their patience when it comes to dealing with customers. Parent or not, I hate people who aren't clear about things and expect the image that's imprinted in their minds to appear right before them.

His instructions:

Him: The banner should say the name of the company and maybe have a logo on it. Hmm, oh and a slogan.

Me: Do you have a slogan?

Him: No.

Me: What image do you want to see as your logo?

Him: I don't know. Be creative.

And this is why you don't do business with family members - they are way harder to deal with, and pay a lot less…

Dear God, it's a pain in the ass to work with that kind of things for your Dad, or hell any customer in general.

They always fail to explain you exactly what they want, and when you're halfway through they change their mind and ask to edit something. And you never finish, since you're always there they consider you like a permanent employee.

And they pay you so little, if anything at all.

you need to make rough drafts instead of creating final logos if that's what you've been doing.

Well, each logo I made he would like at first and then when it's done he would change his mind and say "nah, I don't like it. Let's try something else."

Oddly, in that comic, the operations installation is closer to what the customer needed than anything else.
