I'm waiting for a new mmorpg to be released spring of 2012. It's called Tera and has some of the most ridiculous system requirements to play.
System requirements:• OS: WINDOWS VISTA, WIN7• CPU: AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+ or INTEL Core2 Duo E6750• RAM: 4 GB or greater• GPU: ATI Radeon HD 3870 or NVidia Geforce 8800GT• HDD: 35 GB (70 GB for download installation†)• DirectX: DirectX 9.0c• Optical Drive: DVD-ROM Drive• Connection: BroadbandIt seems to resembles WoW and Perfect World in terms of gameplay but the graphics are at a whole new level. They look great. But damn. 70gb file size and 4gb of RAM on top of RAM needed for your system. Only people with 6+ RAM and really good gfx cards are going to be able to play it.
Oh hello there, fantasy/medieval-esk genre, we meet again.
Usually the case is that the nicer it looks the less player customization there is. Hopefully this one is different, because I can't ever get into a MMO unless I can make the character that I want and not see similar characters very often.
I read about this.
FIVE YEARS AGO.Oh, look, boobs. No other game has done that before.
And holy shit at those specs. They'll have a small audience. I've got the specs, but it doesn't really l ook that appealing. Still. Subscription fee?I like trying new MMOs. Free, anyway. But I've seen no free MMOs that do the job right. Most of them have a store which makes your character ridiculously overpowered, so you're either a moron for playing F2P or PvP is just out of the question. Others have terrible character customization. Others make you pay for stupid things like extra characters or something outside of a sub-par customization. And others let you buy gear that actually expires, so you've wasted money. The only F2P (multiplayer) games I've ever respected are (god forbid) Runescape and League of Legends. Whether or not either are considered "good games", they have good marketing strategies that appeal to both F2P and P2P players. That's one reason I think League ofLegends is so successful right now.I hope you're being sarcastic, Cyrus.
I came here to say what Kilin already said. Except for the Runescape part.
If I must clarify myself again, note that I mentioned the brilliance of the marketing strategies. Nobody cares if you play or not. Nobody cares if you think it's a good game. But their method of separating P2P from F2P keeps players from feeling like they're at a set disadvantage because they don't want to pay, and their constant additions to F2P spark potential subscribers. It's a good strategy, and you can't deny that. Why do you think it's still successful after more than ten years?
And for those who don't know about League of Legends, the game is F2P. But you CAN get extra benefits that don't put you at a special advantage. Vanity. And they make bank. But… but… they're censoring the Elin!
4gb of RAM is pretty standard nowadays. I would mention something about a 2tb HDD costing less than $100, but I can no longer say that after the floods in Thailand. How big is WoW though? Like 30gb? And how old is WoW? That 70gb is 70gb needed to install it. The game itself is only 35gb. (Hint: 70gb is double 35gb, think of extracting a .rar and how you need roughly double the space since you need it for the files AND the archive) And who the fuck doesn't have 4gb+ RAM on their main gaming computer? You can buy 8gb of RAM for $30-40~ and it's only getting cheaper…35 GB? Censored lolis? I was gonna play this with Hotglue (/jp/ mmo guild), but no thanks.
