Which luckily, this blog has little do to with.
warning, if you're not interested in nostalgic rants, and grandiose thinking, this may not be the blog for you. My thoughtsSo, I've been a frequenter of 64Digits since early 2006, a whole 6 years have passed since then, and a lot has changed. V2 came around, and after god knows how long, so did V3. I remember the days where marbs, desertfox, sleepingjohnnyfish, jakex, that joshdreamy guy, twisterghost and people of the such were here, developing games and other cool things. When blogs weren't only about how much we hated each other, and how sad we were. What I'm trying to get at is, 64D is the place I came when I was young, and was just starting to develop games. There were people I looked up to, people I aspired to be. Now, I don't want to burst any of your bubbles, but it's no longer the same. Maybe it's for the better, or maybe not, but personally, I don't like it.When I hear people say "64Digits is dead," it get's me thinking. 64D was the place for GM users to come and chat, without being bombarded by morons (ex, the GMC). The amount of GM users has only increased, and GM is getting more and more advanced, albeit rather slowly, but still advancing nonetheless. With GM:Studio here, it's opened GM up to more professional users, and more possibilities. GM is evolving, but we here at 64D have been stagnant since 2009. Personally, I really think 64D is capable of being something much larger and greater. It's well known, well respected, and it's got a great community (there's a lot of us 'old beans' still around). So, I think 64Digits should expand. It should expand its focus, its userbase, and most importantly, its goals. However, I don't think this is possible with the way the site is set up currently. Honestly, I can't tell if 64D is a game development community, or a blogging community with some game developers. Heck, maybe everyone is fine with that, and if that's the case, disregard this.So I want to hear your guys opinions. Are you happy with what 64D is now? Would it be worth reevaluating things?Sadness, despair, and other melancholic words.

I don't know what you're on about. I came here because of all the kick ass game development going on. Sure, maybe games are few and far between, but you can't rush creativity, that's just impractical.
I'm a new member here, so I don't really know the 'ye olde good old days', but I can say this is a great place for creative people of all kinds; it's laid back, everyone gives relatively good feedback, and it's friendly. There's a bunch of stuff being made here, we've had two big contests since I joined, and I really enjoyed playing all the entries, as well as participating. I don't know what you're getting at about being 'stagnant'. People have been posting pretty depressing blogs recently about random life things, but that just means that those people are comfortable enough with eachother on here to share what's bugging them. This is a cool community that makes cool things. End of story.I guess what I meant by stagnant was the decreasing amount of game development related things. Over the past year, ~52 games have been added, most submitted towards the beginning of the year, and other holidays/certain events (like competitions). One game a week isn't that bad, but, whenever I come here, I seem to find less and less in the game development department.
And I have no problem with the content of blogs, I just wish more of them were game related, or that more people posted dev-logs, wip's, game ideas, scripts, examples, etc. Maybe a better system for tracking games/threads and things, comment systems are nice, but they're only one piece of the pie.Who knows, I could just be asking too much.Lets make v4 and whore ourselves out to the GMC once again.
I frequent TIG more than I frequent 64D, only because there are more things to look at, read about, watch, and collaborate on.
However, it's not mostly GM, which is why I've been coming here. You should contribute to posting about game development, maybe if enough people are working on projects seriously then it'll put others in a similar mood.
I'd post project progress more often, but I have strange definition of 'progress'.Also, I'm collaborating with Taizen on a game that will eventually have ~500 sprites… so progress is slow.64d isn't the same at all, I miss a lot of people. But there's no changing that, so I guess I have no qualms with the site otherwise.
You won't be +1ing after you see that I just edited in a whole bunch of other shit
If only I had a diabolical plan.
I can't alone make large changes to the site, and there would need to be a dedicated team for sure; I posted this mostly because I was curious to see if anyone else felt this way. That is to say, if some people did get together to design a reinvented 64d, I'd be in all the way. (i r 1337 web dev)we've gone through three versions of basically the same site layout. idk about you guys but i completely ignore the front page, outside of the activity feed. this place would be a lot more conductive to other mediums than just being "64d, the game developing site…?" if we added a system that split blogs into categories. or tags or something. we don't just talk games here; there's pixel art, music, programming, real life blogs, drama blogs, mindfuck blogs (you know who you are), questions, etc.
we could make so much more use of the front page. right now all blogs basically get lumped into one pile for us to wade through ourselves.when i think of showing 64d to my friends i think of two things, 1 is that our site design is awful and 2 the site is either dead or flooded with fairly immature members (idk if this is just from the competitions or what).i would personally love to see 64d revitalized but that would take work, which people here don't like doing. remember v3 is essentially a reskin of v2. no one ever actually bothered to "reinvent" 64d and i doubt anyone ever will. the code for v3 is like a stack of cards everyone is afraid to touch (for obvious reasons).
