I've been seriously considering getting a Mac, since I just recently found out that GM is compatible with it, and that aside from making games in Game Maker, all I do is type documents and edit videos. Does anyone else here in the community use a Mac? I've always enjoyed their design but have avoided getting one because I thought that Mac's couldn't run GM, and that would have destroyed me.
…Now I wonder if Google Chrome is Mac compatible…Just checked, yes it is.Now I really want one. Buy me an iMac 27", 64D!As always I love you guys.Feel free to argue Macs vs. PC's below, if you like. I'm a fan of both :)
I believe there's a version of GM for Mac. I'm not sure how well its games port to Windows though.
Now what exactly is your reasoning to get a Mac? I've got nothing against them, but they're pretty expensive just to type on. If all you want is word processing and editing, not games and such, you could save a ton of money building your own PC.But if you really like Macs or you have a use for it, go on and buy it.gm is compatible, but hardly anything else, don't sell your soul to the devil.
I mainly want a Mac because I've always liked the interface, plus every Mac I've worked with did really well with Photoshop, Final Cut Express, and a number of other video and image editing softwares. I own a custom built PC as of now, I built that beast back in 2005 and its still going, but my girlfriend needs a PC (so she doesn't have to use mine all the damn time) and its a good excuse to make the swap.
Yes, come to the dark side…
Seriously though, the Macintosh version of GM works, but I personally don't like the overall look and feel of it, and it is not GM8, but 7 (meaning I can't import - and thus convert - games I made using GM8). Also note that DLLs and extensions based on DLLs do not work. You can always dual boot with Windows though, that's what I do at least.Come to the UNIX side. We have cookies. :D
Only problem I really see with Macs is that there's no Flash. So, if you plan on making any Flash games, buy a PC. Or make one, like Kilin said.
Uh…what do you mean "no Flash"?
I believe Qwilderwibben is thinking of the "No flash on the iPhone or iPad" controversy, which is only iOS. Flash runs fine on OSX.
If there isn't a Mac equivalent to what you're running, you could always dual boot the machine w/ Windows as well. I can't think of anything off hand that would be incompatible, although some of my games probably would be (specifically Rise of Nations, I love that game).
EDIT: Nevermind, apparently RoN is Mac compatible, too.
