Mac vs. PC

Posted by Infinity_Plus on Oct. 30, 2010, 11:53 a.m.

I've been seriously considering getting a Mac, since I just recently found out that GM is compatible with it, and that aside from making games in Game Maker, all I do is type documents and edit videos. Does anyone else here in the community use a Mac? I've always enjoyed their design but have avoided getting one because I thought that Mac's couldn't run GM, and that would have destroyed me.

…Now I wonder if Google Chrome is Mac compatible…

Just checked, yes it is.

Now I really want one. Buy me an iMac 27", 64D!

As always I love you guys.

Feel free to argue Macs vs. PC's below, if you like. I'm a fan of both :)

THERE. IS. NO. FIRST. PARTY. SOFTWARE. TO. DEFRAG. ITSELF.

But I guess it's a rather nice computer for media related stuff.

Yeah, like movies, music, and pictures (With the right programs) - that kind of stuff.

It's interesting though - I've never heard of a games programing software for Macintosh until GM4Mac came along. :P

What, games aren't considered media? :P

Games programming software…you mean besides computer languages like C++ and Python and package-library things like Panda3D and Ogre3D, right?

That's because defragmentaion is largely unnecessary on OS X thanks to a clever filesystem, and automatic background defragmentation for the corner cases. It's not something you should ever have to worry about, in any case.

In my view, OS X is a really nice OS, but the hardware is far too expensive for what you're getting - however, the advantage of living in apple's walled garden is that they CAN control every variable, so in theory there's less likelyhood of hardware issues. If the money isn't an issue, and (this is the really important one) you want a mac, go buy one. If you don't want a mac, go for a windows or linux machine, you'll get a lot more bang for your buck.

I don't really understand why people think macs are better for media. that was a while ago not anymore.

Another thing, if something goes wrong with your mac which may happen, you won't know how/be able to fix it.

So yeah and I don't like their pricing. :I that is all.

tl;dr comments.

Basically it's all preference of what you use your computer for and if you are willing to shell out huge amounts of extra cash.

Seeing as you are on 64D I would like to forewarn you that you won't be able to play a majority (99%) of the games on here.

Exactly. If your going to waste your money on a mac, at least do it for an actual reason lol.

Really now.

What is a Mac good for then, if not for general media? :P

They're good if you don't know what a computer is.
