I do not believe in any god as similar to one described in scriptures since I don't find any evidence to support the existence of those and since I believe the universe can be explained without taking some 'god' into account.

I believe there's a God in the sense of an omnipotent set of forces that govern the Universe (or Multiverse, whatever). I don't know why these forces exist and in that sense, I don't know why God exists. I just know It's omnipotent. I'm scared of what the Universe does to people and I'm scared of what it'll do to me.

Mankind originated people because the forces in the Universe all coincided in some bizarre and random collusion and created the right conditions for ugly, destructive, sentient life to spring forth from the miasma. It wasn't a good day for the Universe at the craps table. It's widely regarded as a bit of a snake-eyes for quite a few reasons.

The way we model the Universe says that the stuff needed to make the stuff that made single-celled organisms that led to eukaryotes needed to come from ionised clouds of star boogers. It's in these vast oceans of gaseous celestial fluff that amines got all attracted to each other and started holding hands to make the first amino acids. Life followed when introduced to hot solvents and hydrogen sulphide (yes, I used the "ph" spelling because I'm like that).

That's just our model though. We could be way, way wrong. Relativistic empiricists say we'll never know for sure. Those guys are dicks though and shouldn't be trusted. We do our best within an epistemological system that self-improves, from any perspective, that's got to be worth continuing with. The above description is where Science is right now re:Creation. If something changes, my opinion may do too.

Life is a funny thing because it's really hard to define. Finding other sentient life out there, space-dogs or cosmo-cats, is probably pretty unlikely. Probably. We don't really have much data to go on other than "This is the only planet with any sentient life we've know of" and "Other planets are so far away, we'll likely never ever reach them." Finding other, stupider and less interesting life kicking around on some water-ice satellite heated by tidal stress orbiting Jupiter? That's a little more likely.

If you mean contacting a xenospecies it all depends on whether we can avoid blowing ourselves up in an atomic-powered wang-waving competition. That, and a whole lotta luck.

The notion that one must believe in "something" is not a topic I tend to lean towards, the reason simply being that every party stating their case seems to always give me a reason to not believe in what they say.

Therefore I take the stance of one who doesn't give a shit and just wants to life a nice life.

What comes after if I lean toward Evolution?

Everyone and their cat knows I used to be LDS. But I no longer hold those beliefs, obviously. I don't understand how someone can deny evolution, but it's also hard for me to deny some form of creation. The big bang theory, for example. Well if that's when everything suddenly existed, how was it set off? And even if there is a god, how did he and his predecessors begin? It's hard to wrap my mind around infinity, so I don't try.

Anyway.

I'm an agnostic. I don't know if there is a god and don't claim to. As Xemic said, there is no real evidence. In many cases, the Bible and other religious texts have been modified countless times over the ages in order to fit the needs of whatever corrupt leader ruled at the time.

I believe there is life out there, but our technology is just too limited at this time.

One thing I like to think about is the idea of an afterlife. It's hard for people to grasp the idea of their existence suddenly ending, and it is for me too. There are ideas I like and could live "an eternity" with, but I don't claim to know this either.

And I think 2012 is a joke.
