Jaj is here!

I found out about this page way to late.

Well better late than never!

I have a lot of catching up to do.

Ok, I'm going to tell stuff about me now. Lets start with a short biography.

Age 0-5

I was born on March 16 1989. 1989 was a great year.

*The gameboy came out

*Super Mario land came out

*Start of "telekids" a fantastic dutch children show with cartoons and stuff.

*Fall of berlin wall

And I guess there are a lot more things.

Oh yeah, and I was born!!!

What happened next… I learned to talk, I learned to walk. It was probably the best time of my life exept that I don't remember anything of it. My big sister always teased me, that was stupid. But soon enough I got a little sister to tease, and everything was right again.

Age 5-13

Ok next… my first big love: Paper

This is what I did with paper.

*Cut it in pieces

*fold it and cut figures out of it

*Making books

*Making computers and computer games

As you can see, thats where it all started. We were always behind with the computers. We've had a DOS computer for a very long time. My favourite games back then:

*Dangerous dave

*World Resque

*Cd-man

*Secret agent: the hunt for red rock rover

*Crystal caves

This might be why I still love retro games and don't like a lot of the bloody 3D stuff.

I got desperate to make computer games and tried to find all kinds of different ways to do so. Some of you might remember that in the paint of windows 3.X you could move the stuff you selected with the arrow keys. This is not possible in the newer versions :(

So I made mazes in paint and selected a figure I drew that had to get trough.

There was one important thing missing tough… You could cheat big time :P

Next it was powerpoint. In powerpoint I actually created a platform game! Well… kinda. You see in powerpoint "B" is used to skip a page. So I made a some dia's after each other. Every so many seconds you went to the next dia. Some dia's said game over (in logical places of course) so you had to "jump" (press B) to avoid things. Wasn't I the creative one.

13-now

Finally the suffering was over. I found gamemaker version 3 and 4 on the internet. Soon I found out how to work with it. But I didn't really get better fast, still don't. Now I am only a decent programmer.

Anyway, I had many ideas I couldn't really execute, which was a little frustrating.

When I learned to pixel one/ two years ago thanks to mr. Niceguy, my teacher :P that changed. I finally started to really finish games.

At this point, I am really happy with what I can create and I hope things will only get better from now on.

My current goal is to reach a goal outside the gamemaker audience. I am making a new site that will only showcase the better things I have done. I'll probably also place my games at downloads.com and stuff. I hope it'll get all a bit more rewarding that way. Cause thats what keeps me going.

Haha, I know the frustration of not being able to make games. I once had the idea of making an fps in gamemaker, drawing every single frame. So the up-key would go to a different frame, etc. :/ The powerpoint idea is cooler tough!

"wait, since when you know programming?"

Hmmm… your question can be read two ways :p

But since you don't know me as far as I know, I guess you mean the first.

depends on what you think is "knowing" programming, but I did everything with D&D for about… 1.5 years (with maybe some small things like image_single=3 or stuff like that). Now, it is all GML

"I remember crystal caves"

I still play it sometimes. It is easy to find all 5 games on the net to download, cd-man is to fast to play on newer computers tough :(
