Immunocide - Update 4

Rant

Last night was bad. I spent way too much time on the details, instead of actually creating new content. What's irritating about it is how much time it needs to test out whether something is well implemented or not. That's one drawback about trying to make an RTS game as a "side project". You never feel that you have enough time and the details are difficult to work out in a short amount of time.


Development

Like I said, I worked on polishing the details yesterday, while I cultivated more ideas for the next unit.

  • "Infected Cell" enemy unit now counts toward the 'Biohazard Level'.

  • "Infected Cell" now releases twice as many "Virus" units when it bursts.

  • To modulate (counter-balance) the above rise in difficulty, "Infected Cell" now shows a 'throbbing' animation for 8 seconds before it bursts. This gives your units a little time to move away, should you notice it. Getting this animation to work correctly took a surprisingly (and upsettingly) long amount of time. I first went with 'vibrating', but it looks overly, obviously artificial. Then I tried 'enlarging' the unit in several ways. The problem with this is that it is too subtle until the last moment, although the overall effect looks really cool. Next, I tried a combination of the two in even more ways. I was unsatisfied with all of them. Finally, after a long time, I went for 'throbbing', which is subtle, yet clearly noticeable.

  • Enemy unit ability "Mitosis" (multiplication) delay readjusted. Now, only "Bacteria" units have an extra 4 second delay at the start of battle.


    Responsibilities Recap

    I'm a little unsteady on what I have to do at the moment. I've got multiple responsibilities, and it is getting a little difficult to manage time for them all. Anyway, I have:

  • GameMakerGames Staff Reviewing

  • Sapphire Blood Studio: Team Project - "The Chained Sky"

  • Personal Main Project: "VouSei Advent"

  • Personal Side Project: "Immunocide"

    And I also haven't included many other unfinished side projects, such as the card game, "One". I guess I'll have to completely stop checking out other people's games for the time being.

    Is it just me or does the Poll bars look somewhat nicer today?

    OMG! User community levels are gone (thank god)! Damn, I'm slow.

    The poll bars do look better today. Yes. Yep.

    Immunocide sounds cool. I can't wait to play.

    Yes, flashback pumped some Liquid Sexy into the poll bars last night.

    And, a few WEEKS ago, I got out my Admin Stick and beat some usless features out of existance (Ironically, they were all features *I* had added.)

    The game looks pretty good. Although I think you need to add a guard mode - your units should chase the enemy a little.
