Immunocide - Update 6

GameMaker6.1 Bug Discovered

GameMaker6.1 is incompatible with the FFDSHOW CODEC. When GameMaker6.1 attempts to play an MP3 and you have the FFDSHOW CODEC installed (it's a media codec commonly used for Windows Media Player), there are certain instances where the game will freeze. This happens most often when you try to exit the game or when the song tries to loop.


Development:

The last two days was a little uneventful, considering that I focused more on The Chained Sky (traditional RPG team project) than Immunocide. That project is starting to take shape, since I spent 8 hours fleshing out the backstory in the past two days. For the rest of the time though, I worked on Immunocide, but I held back from creating new content, since I put so much creative effort into The Chained Sky. So, I spent much time polishing the details and fixing bugs:

  • Small changes to the tutorial and help window. The help window may later be removed. Pressing F1 may instead open a message window built especially for the game.

  • Sound effect bug after loading save fixed.

  • Small grammatical errors fixed.

  • "Endomiasma" unit abilities tweaked. It is now easier to defeat.


    Design:

  • Originally, I've planned to introduce all enemy units in the tutorial. After some thought, however, I figured that it is more interesting to see them appear in the story levels themselves for the first time.
