I won the SHMUP-DEV Competition 2k7 with Varia. I really didn't expect first place, but I guess it all paid off in the end. There were some really professional games by people much more experienced and older than I am. I'm pretty happy right now, this will certainly make an impression in certain things.
It all started all the way back on June 6, 2007. I saw the competition and decided that I'd want to try my hand at it, because it'll help me out with deadlines and management. I didn't exactly think about making the game as it looks today; I just wanted to make something small, something similar to Kairuga. But after some encouraging from some respected people, I decided to think about how I was going to lay it out. I released an early demo and everything, just to get feedback immediately so that I can build the game properly. And it went from there, a few videos and screenshots released to the public and I was working everyday on the game for 1-3 hours, some days even 5. At times I didn't feel like working on it, but I pushed myself and did it anyway. Basically, I wasted the summer on that single game, but it paid off at the end.My parents are much lighter on me now that I've given them evidence that I can create worthwhile games. They will get me pretty much anything I want (except my own bank account for some reason) but the only thing I want is a wii right now and they're pretty much sold out around here (they don't want any buying online, though). I can actually think about getting SSBB in February, I'll probably get the console when it comes out.Anyway, that's all for now.
Really good job, man. You give me some hope.
Yeah, that little bit of winning just got me more inspired.
Though people's reviews here at 64D don't. <_<It's all about different tastes. The game was pretty much tailored for that community, so it isn't surprising that some people don't like it here - but hey, that's the way it is with all games.
Congrats. [:)] The game is great, btw.
CONGRATU-FUCKING-LATIONS YOU FUCKING WON
I played Varia only briefly, and the graphics really blew me away, the background was especially awesome. As did the first dozen enemies. Man I suck at shoot 'em ups… I've actually bought lesser games for the PS2, so you've definitely got some serious skills.
Nice one Kairos
Good work.
:)
