Minecraft 1.5 Animation

Posted by LAR Games on Jan. 15, 2013, 3:01 p.m.

As most of you know, 1.5 has an amazing new feature that makes something I've been wanting for a while possible. Custom Water animations.

The way that they implemented this however, makes it possible for ANY texture in the game to be animated.

So, Here's what I'm currently working on with that:

What do you guys think?

Wahaha, moving grass!

Snap son, I was planning on doing something like that with grass/leaves as well; I was just afraid it'd look terrible, but that actually looks pretty good.

Does that decrease performance noticeably?

Hmm. I don't really know. I don't have any noticeable slowdowns, but I'm sure people will let me know once 1.5 comes out.

Do animations only play in 'fancy' setting? If not then they should.

That would make water and lava look pretty dumb =p I think manually removing the animation would be pretty simple since it's all separate files now.

Well I meant things that are newly animatable. (is that a word)

I mean, I know my computer slows down a bit when I go to the nether and I assume its because of chunk after chunk of lava lake.

What about oceans? They're always being animated as well and they don't have the lag the nether does. I think the nether lags because of all the fire.

Nah the lava animation has nothing to do with it, its the lighting from all the giant caves and stuff

I'm surprised occluding caverns you can't see hasn't happened yet.
