Best MMO I've ever played.

So, I"m sure you guys have heard of the impending release of the Elders Scrolls MMO, which I'm really looking forward to.

Well, a few days ago, I started playing a different MMO to keep me busy until the beta of The Elder Scrolls Online comes out. It's called Tera.

I"m sure you guys have seen this before:

Well, that's pretty much true. The armor for women in this game is absolutely ridiculous.

Also, there's this:

Yeah. That's actually a race in the game. (I think rob would have really liked this.)

Anyway, now that those things are out of the way, let's get to the awesome stuff about the game. This game has hands down, the best combat system of any MMO I"ve ever played. This game is just FUN to play. Killing monsters doesn't seem like a chore compared to other MMOs. Enemies don't generally force you to fight them, either.

You can walk right past them if you feel like it.

Also, it's going free to play next month. You can play it now though, by going to the site and registering for a free trial. It'll basically last you until the game goes free next month.

This game is really, really fun. (Hint, hint.)

So, thoughts?

Don't worry, the Tera community likes to rant about other MMOs too, so you'll fit right in.

I'm looking forward to when this goes free to play. All these restrictions for trial members are really annoying. I can't even chat on the global channel.. (Or any channel for that matter)

As I understand it, F2P players have a lot of limits imposed upon them. I like the model but at the same time I don't. At least it's not pay-to-win, but being limited to two characters per server? That's a little harsh.

I wonder how many 64Digiters would actually consider playing this, so we can form a 64Digits guild and actually play a game together.

Sure there are other MMOs, but the nice thing about F2P is that you don't have to dedicate yourself to any one game. I'm looking forward to PSO2 as well.

I think I'm just bored of MMO's in general, I mean they are really just good at wasting time with little to no required brain power. I haven't played an MMO since WoW that really introduced anything novel, and new MMO's that boast improvements over other MMO's are usually sort-of adding features that regular games already fucking have.

I prefer games with splitscreen or LAN multiplayer, where you can play a game with friends instead of random fuckwits on the internet who log 100+ hours a week into the game. I know you can play MMOs with friends but it's more fun playing a game that isn't an MMO. I guess the reason MMO's are so castrated is that the game needs to be set up a certain way to make it fair for all players and also have enough padding to get years of subscription fees out of players.

From what I understand, Free to Play and the Trial I have are two separate things. Tera hasn't gone F2P just yet. The reason I'm able to play is that I'm playing the trial version that they decided to make last indefinitely since they're going to free to play anyway.

The reason Tera caught my eyes in the first place was the announcement that when they went free to play, they wouldn't have any restrictions. They would just ad more content for people who did decide to pay.

Amazing combat that stays interesting the whole way through
How is it executed, exactly?

I remember thinking Fly for Fun was so cool because of it's animations, but it loses it's luster when all I'm doing is stringing timed actions together via mouse clicking.

There is a difference, but people who play for free still stand out compared to those who have subscribed in the past. You can find more information here, so be aware of it.

Of course, if you drop $15 now, you can potentially save a bunch, provided you're serious about this game. These guys aren't exactly known for having cheap store items.

Basically, you've got a skillbar like most other MMOs. However, unlike most other MMOs, hits and misses aren't affected by RNG; they're only affected by player skill. Basically, knowing how your moves work is key to doing well at all, because you do a lot of real-time dodging and blocking and observing patterns. Basically, this game requires far more attention than any other MMO I've ever played. In fact, the only other game I could even compare it to is Dark Souls.

In other words, if you do poorly, you only have yourself to blame, and I really like that aspect.

It's difficult to grasp without actually trying it.

Yeah Guildwars 2 is like that, and Raiderz, and probably a bunch more that I haven't played; it's the new MMO fad.

To be honest though, GW2 combat isn't a good frame of reference to Tera's. I truly think Tera excels in its combat mechanics compared to other MMOs to the point where it feels like a console game, but the rest of the game can be flawed to the point of frustration for me.

I hate the questing system. I really do. It just makes me wonder why you're going to put all that effort into one thing and not bother to go the whole way.

Yeah. I need to save up 15 dollars. I was thinking about doing that before even downloading the game.

@charlie

From what I hear, Tera has better combat than Guild wars.
