Triple Boot

Posted by Lapixx on Feb. 12, 2008, 11:50 a.m.

So I'm downloading the install files for Linux now (Ubuntu). Strange that I didn't do that before actually. Anyway, first I need to make another partition on my iMac. After I've done that, and installed Linux itself, I will have the choise between 3 Operation Systems, every time I start up my Mac.

As you could see, I can boot in

- Windows XP Professional (Not that I like that edition, but I couldn't find any other one)

- Macintosh OS X Leopard (Just have that one, only cost me €10,00 because I bought my iMac in the month Leopard arrived)

- Linux (absolutely free)

Now, why did I want to install this new OS? Well, I was going to install it before, but for some reasons, I can't remember what reasons anymore, I didn't (probably I couldn't find the download link, or something stupid like that). Now my friend has a old Laptop. Still working fine, but bad enough for Windows XP.

So he read some story about Ubuntu, and asked me if it was smart to install it on his old Laptop (I saw that thing once, if you let fall it down from the roof, you would actually kill someone with it, just to imagine how thin it is :P).

I said: Why not? (okay, I was not that enthusiastic, but I never said something bad about Linux).

Because of all of this, I remembered that I once wanted to try Linux. So I will in a couple of minutes.

Triple Boot iMac, yay!

Update

Seems that my friend can't get Linux installed on his Laptop. I asked if his Laptop actually has a DVD reader. I don't think so really… Even though he says it has :P

Another update

Okay, Installing Linux, not a big deal I would say. But sometimes I'm completely wrong.

For example: I once wanted to make my iMac into a Triple Boot iMac, something like you can read above this. Now it seems I fcked up my entire Mac while making new partitions (Linux didn't even recognized the new partition, so this is all for nothing).

There is now 20 GB I can't use, and still no working partition for Linux.

Steps to go:

1) Backup all Windows files

2) Remove all of the partitions

3) Make new Windows partition

4) Restore files to new Windows partition

5) Make new partition under Linux (because it seems not to work with Mac-made partitions)

6) Install linux

7) Try to boot under all of the 3 OS'es because I want them ALL to work

Hmmm, reading this, I've the feeling it's going to take me some time…

ChIkEn, parhaps you know someone who has Leopard? It seems that the isntall disc isn't secured with anything, not even a licence key… and otherwise you just pay the 130 dollars :P

@Rusky: WTF :P

@MahFreenAmeh: You mean: "I don't like Ubuntu"…

That's what I thought :P

Anyway this really fcked up my HD, and it seems that Mac does not support triple boot :P So I installed 3 OS'es, but I can't start up Linux -.-

Means that I have to install some third party software…
