Weird things from my mind

I got back into sketching recently. Just doing sketches of monsters and ships and that sort of thing. When I get my graphics tablet I'll try my hand at virtual painting. Who knows, maybe I'll be good at it…

A Gentleman's Shackles

Just a sketch of what I thought it would look like if a glove were physically part of the hand. It's a bit kooky and weird, but I was in that sort of quasi-abstract mindset at the time (like I usually am when I do creative things)

Gothica

One of my favourites. This one is just a fantasy sketch. I have a larger cardboard version in the making, with a large dragon thingy there too, but its about an A2 size and my scanner is kinda tiny in comparison.

Spectral Tides

An interesting idea I suppose. I think I just wanted to draw an old withered hand. I was in the park at the time, and the mind does wander…

Tattered Bear

I admit, I only really wanted to draw the teddy bear. But its a nice teddy bear I think [^^]

Thought

This one took me ages. Just a random collection of bits I felt like drawing, all woven together in some way or another. My SO and I used to do this on scraps of paper, taking turns drawing additions to the picture.

Tree by the Moon

In the center of the town of Broken Hill, Australia, there is a park. In that park is a tree. That is what I drew, minus the leaves. Maybe I couldn't be bothered, but I think it had more to do with me thinking it looked better without leaves.

Anyway, they're a few of my old sketches. I know they're not really that good, but that was essentially when I started drawing. I'm getting better, especially at drawing characters. One day I'll even manage to draw a body well… Ah well.

Only a couple of days before I can go back to making Danse Machina. I'll be looking at level design. The story is pretty much all nutted out, but the levels still have a long way to go. Oh, and thanks Joewoof for nominating DM for an interview with the GMInsider. Its appreciated knowing that my games are wanted. Expect a new demo some time in the next few weeks.

I'd like those sketches much more if they're scaled down (yes, they're HUGE). I have some drawings & illustrations of my own too (I'll post them later once my scanner is fixed).

What can I say? I am honestly looking forward to your game. :)

It's a little painful though, knowing that my computer probably cannot handle all the lighting effects that the gameplay is dependent upon. Have you considered my "split large dungeons into small rooms" suggestion? It gives you about the same amount of freedom in designing levels, but also makes your game unquestionably more accessible to a larger audience. I highly reccomend doing so for everyone's sake.

Btw, are those characters in Danse Machina your own works?

Okay, they're resized (except perhaps the first one… sorry about that.

And yes, I've taken your advice onboard JW. There will be several areas for each level, as the levels themselves are quite huge. I'm working on trying to solve the lag issue, but it doesn't look good. I've already streamlined a few bits and pieces, but that's mainly to make up for the new bits and pieces I've added. [^^] fun though and it looks great, especially the screen-shake when you're hit.

That one, Thought, I can imagine if you painted it in color, it would be like one of Dali's paintings (melting clocks…)

And most certainly they are NOT my own drawings (I wish!). Once I get my graphics tablet next month, I'll get to work on my own. They won't be as good, but they'll be MINE at least. Of course, Gabrielle will bear a striking resemblance to the current portrait of her…

Cool. Nice drawings (now that I can really see them). My fave is Spectral Tides, though I think it'll be better with more refined shade-contrast around the hand.

These are old, right? Any new sketches? :)

Gah! I want a tablet too! Oh well… guess I'm stuck with draw+ink+scan+photoshop. >_<
