I'm not about updates. I'm convinced the interest level for what I've been up to from anyone reading this doesn't go on from polite courtesy curiosity. But I'm always down to share something beautiful.
He's the finished product:
This is a Smash 4 Gamecube controller with a PS3 joystick. It's simple. I've seen it before a couple of times. The point of this isn't unique. It's how it happened.
I hate breaking shit. Cause then I end up paying for it. No, I don't have parents to run to in cause something I need breaks. I'm an adult now, so I have take care of my shit or else I have to pay to replace it, so I'm the #1 guy I know for taking care of electronics. This stuff gets pricey real quick, and while I'll let vegetables go bad in the fridge to the point of having to toss them out, out of negligence, I will take care of my electronic shit.
I dropped orange juice on my goddamn PS3 controller. And apparently all the circuitry is like, right there right below the buttons, so in only 2 minutes, I was already getting inputs read that weren't being pressed, and in 5 my controller was dead. And i'm talking about I turned that stupid controller around real quick as soon as I registered what happened, and it got fucked anyway. So after spending 30 minutes looking for my goddamn screwdriver… I failed at reviving it. No amount of drying or wiping was going to fix this thing. I went to sleep pissed.
So I wake up the next day I got the brilliant idea of replacing this piece of shit:
As you can see, it's super worn down. Yeah, I've seen worse, but even though the picture makes it harder to tell there's actually a very noticable dip in the plastic that makes me loose grip of the thing. In Smash, any missed input with Fox usually means a self-destruct, so I wanted to fix this without having to buy another controller. I found the way! The PS3 controller joysticks actually fit
perfectly, and now I'm back to do my nonsense movement in Melee to make myself look better than what I actually am to newbies :) God this thing feels great.
I wanted to share my story. The ironic twist of events is that I was drinking juice late at night to begin with because I had been running a fever for days and I wanted to get more vitamin C on me to help my immune system. I ruined one thing by trying to fix another… but the end result is this beautiful controller, that by the mere fact that I had to open it I also got the very satisfying feeling of scraping all the dark dirt that gathered in the gap that the controller has straight down the middle. Not only is my controller fixed now, but it's also actually CLEAN
xD suck it
Yeah most thumbsticks are interchangeable. The only outlier I can think of off the top of my head would be N64's which has a very specialized thumbstick subassembly.
I've actually been pondering replacing my PS4 controller's thumbsticks with the vastly superior Xbox One's… but I'm not going to buy a 2nd Xbox One controller just for that, so I guess it'll have to wait until I can find a dead Xbone controller with intact thumbsticks for cheap. Or try and find the thumbsticks for sale separately on eBay or Amazon…xD suck it
I chewed my thumbstick down right to the hard part as a kid (not literally chewed mind, but wore it out so much with Melee)
