NN's Malteser ice cream

Okay, home-made Malteser ice cream is made of epic win. I'm eating some now, and THERE'S AN ORGY IN MY MOUTH.

Me and my brother used to make tons of this stuff when we were small, and have it for breakfast the next day - not a very healthy breakfast, but who cares when it tastes so good. Yesterday we relived the glory by making a giant pot full of the stuff.

The recipe is really easy, (the hardest part is trying not to eat the ingredients beforehand) so here it is - The official guide to Noodle's Malteser Ice Cream.

What you will need:

  • Several large packets of Maltesers (Munchies and/or Flake works good too. Any combo you want)

  • Large pot of cream. (double or single)

  • 6-7 eggs.

  • Rolling pin. (or anything big and blunt)

  • Large, flat bowl.

  • 2 smaller bowls.

    How to make it:

    1) The fun part: Put all the Maltesers in a strong bag - I would recommend several bags; you don't want it to pop - make sure there is no trapped air, then whack them hard with a rolling pin, or anything hard and blunt you can get your hands on. I would definitely recommend leaving some whole. Chunky bits add to the awesomeness.

    2) Separate the eggs. Put the whites in one bowl, and the yolks in another. Make sure none of the eggs have gone off.

    3) First whisk the egg white, then whisk the egg yolks. The order is important to ensure you dont get any traces of fat in the white while beating. The egg white should be light and fluffy, and should stay on the whisk when held up. For extra sweetness, add some white sugar to the yolk.

    4) Now put the cream into a bowl and whisk that too, until it has been aerated and has bubbles.

    5) Add the chocolatey stuff and the egg yolk to the cream and mix together. Once thoroughly mixed, add the fluffy egg white and fold it in, gently.

    6) Put it all into a large, shallow bowl (shallow, because the chocolaty bits sink down a little) and freeze it.

    7) Come back a few hours later and ENJOY.

There you have it. Epic awesomeness in 7 steps. I'll see if I can get hold of a camera to take a photo to put here.

EDIT: Sorry, we ran out too quickly for me to take a picture. =(

    Have fun.

If you can somehow convey the mind-blowing awesomeness of it, then yes.

Haha! molester. Great typo right there.

I would strongly urge you, or anyone, to make their own.

Why do you think I wrote the recipe? >_>

My latest fix has Maltesers, Munchies AND Flakes. Delicious.

I have them in the ratio of 3:2:2, with the Munchies left whole. Awesomely chunky goodness right there.

Are Maltesers an English thing, I've never heard of them…

NoodleNog 17 years, 3 months ago

Ahhhh. They don't do Maltesers in America.

    Quote: Wikipedia
A similar confection is manufactured in the United States. Known as Whoppers, they are chocolate-coated malted milk balls produced by The Hershey Company.

If your american, then just use 'Whoppers'. They're practically the same thing.

I might try it with those new Mars Planets. though I think they are also only in the UK.

This ice cream recipe works well for pretty much any chocolate confection, so just try anything and tell me how it goes.
