Echo #45: Productive week

Posted by Phoebii on July 24, 2016, 2:41 p.m.

This week was quite productive!

First of all, I have made unleashed Missile Strike ability effect.

Old unleashed Missile Strike was shooting one big slow missile instead of many small ones and in some cases unleashed Missile Strike was weaker than regular one.

Now unleashed Missile Strike simply summons additional missile, that deals 100% of total relay damage, if Missile Strike is maxed. It's not very powerful effect, because I couldn't make it any more powerful for balance - Missile Strike has really low cooldown and so it has much higher unleash chance than other abilities. But that additional missile, summoned by the unleashed Missile Strike, makes pretty explosions, so despite the fact that it deals little damage, I really like new unleashed effect and I hope you guys will like it too.

After making pretty explosions, I have improved spaceship building.

I have made a simple part installing/uninstalling animation.

I imagine that the weapons, processors, engines and other parts of futuristic, modifiable, city-sized military spaceship should have pretty complex programs in them, so I think that installation animation is a must be!

Changes to the spaceship building weren't just cosmetic.

When building spaceship, parts used to fail to be placed in the building field and that made spaceship building slower and slightly irritating, especially when building large spaceship.

That's fixed now!

I have also fixed other old problem.

Players had been telling me about armour and ether bars being in wrong place for long time.

I have finally relocated them, now bars are closer to screen center.

Lastly, I have began working on better ability interface.

I have made upgrading/downgrading animations and cleaned up ability description screen.

It still needs some polishing and I hope to have it done next week.

Next week I'll work on many different things, because I'll try to make the update ready by the end of the week and I have a lot of things on my list!

Until next time!

Here you are with your 45th update blog and I just spent my summer watching nothing but Anime…

^ Hopefully you've been watching GOOD anime….

Jani_Nykanen 8 years, 1 month ago

^ There is no such a thing called "good anime".

^ burn this heathen. D:<

If I was writing devlogs at the moment, they'd be boring as hell. App development doesn't exactly make for interesting subject matter.

Anime is just a medium, Jani. Saying there's no good anime is tantamount to saying that there's no good movies, books, videogames, songs, etc.

Phoebii 8 years, 1 month ago

@Mega: If you can't write interesting devlogs about thing you're doing, you're doing something wrong?

@Anime: I'll go with Jani on this one. There's no good anime for me.

Let's say I don't like wood. You can build things out wood. Good things or bad things, toilets or castles. You can build greatest things out of wood, but I'll hate it anyway, because I hate wood.

That, or I've been watching wrong animes. Attack on Titan, Sword Art Online and Full Metal Alchemist. I only watched first few episodes of Full Metal Alchemist, then I got bored.

S3xySeele 8 years, 1 month ago

The wood analogy makes sense, but with how many different kinds of wood there are and how many ways it can be used, I find it difficult to believe that somebody could dislike wood in all its facets. I think what's more likely is that somebody dislikes certain kinds of wood, or dislikes wood being used for certain things such as chairs.

Is it possible that somebody truly loathes all wood in all possible uses? I suppose… but I think that's probably rather rare. And with how many people express such a sweepingly negative opinion of anime as a whole, it's questionable whether most of them ever actually gave it much consideration.

I haven't seen Attack on Titan, Sword Art Online or the original Full Metal Alchemist (though I did watch the remake, Brotherhood, which I thought was pretty good and is generally considered to be superior)… so I can't personally judge whether or not they're the "wrong" anime. I just know that in my circle of anime-watching friends (or at least those whose anime critique I value), they're certainly not heralded as masterpieces.

Get a boring day-job and try writing about it. It's not a case of "doing something wrong", it's a case of life being shit sometimes. Not everything is desirable or enjoyable.

The logs that I would currently be writing would pretty much literally be "Uploaded two photos to local business website, used Teamviewer to backup data on local server, spent two hours studying".

Phoebii 8 years, 1 month ago

@Mega: I know. It's just a thought. I wish for your life to not be shit sometimes.

@Anime: Well then, I'll try to think about why I hate anime.

That's what I know about anime (what I think makes it different from other stuff): Odd art style, people in anime have big eyes. Lots of flashy effects. Unnatural. Pretentious. Sometimes weird. Sometimes perverted.

I don't like these things. Can anime be called anime without them?

That's good news. This could be the reason of me not liking anime. Point me to a masterpiece and I'll try it, after I'm done watching Person of Interest.

The reason why I watched animes I mentioned, is because they had good ratings. Too bad you can't trust ratings.

Today I've read thought that hate is made out of ignorance. Maybe I hate anime because I don't know it?

But then there's another type of hate. I hate Dactylis glomerata because I'm allergic to it, that damn plant makes me feel bad.

S3xySeele 8 years, 1 month ago

Let's see… An anime with plain art style, small eyes, no flashy effects, natural, unpretentious, normal and not perverted… quite the tall order. Oh, and also a masterpiece? Hmm…

The first one that jumps to mind would be Monster, or its spiritual predecessor Master Keaton.

Some other ones that perhaps don't fit that bill perfectly but might still be worth consideration: Bokurano, Major (if you're okay with a baseball anime), Cowboy Bebop, His and Her Circumstances, Planetes, Ergo Proxy, Moribito, Zipang… the movies Summer Wars, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, and… I guess I'll put the brakes on right there. lol
